To land grab you may have to pork some or all of a base in the process of capturing the base.

But if you pork a base it may not mean you are trying to land grab.
AW - AH Pilot 199? - 200?

Land grab came first, you used to be able to take a base only by killin the acks and vulching anyone who dared take off. In those days there was no point in porking a base to smithereens before taking it. Oh wait, did I just imply there was a need for that now? My mistake :D

Infact going back in time to AW4W and beyond "pork" was in existance long before land grab.

All fields could be porked and the  strat system re enforced the pork element further (when it worked).........

In effect bombers and fighter bombers were porkers and  fighters resisted such attempts.

Whilst 3 central fields could be captured this was not land grab which did not emerge until AW3 when all fields became capturable (although in set up 2 were usually made with indestructable hangers (which in AW were required to be destroyed prior to capture))

Through out this period and until the the later days of AW3 destroying fuel caused lower octane fuel to become the only type available. A feature which attracted much critique as it was often porked. Latterly fuel was used to modify the zone limit (the number of AC that could operate from a field)

We should be wary of the tint of our glasses when looking back on  days of yester year.

Pork has been a central theme in MMPG Air Combat Sims for far longer than land grab.

Anyone remeber the old Red Barron arcade game? This was pre- pc. There was a film  (animation) of planes flying at you HO, and your plane was on a stick. Hmm - if you aren't over 35 or so you probably don't  :) Couldn't turn, couldn't climb, just bob and weave and kill HO.

So remember, not all HO's are dweebs - some are just old :D

Or do you remember the 'scroll' type of bomber game, where you looked down over a paper with huts , jeeps and stuff goin by?  hehe. I used to play that one all the time. Jeesh I'm barely past 35 and I feel old recalling those games, maybe the place i grew up was cheap and they had old games...ya that's it, cheap ol guy games.
