« on: June 16, 2004, 06:38:49 PM »
having a hell of a time.
for last couplae weeks been getting booted after about 5 -10 min. all i have changed is moving a sound card to a different slot.
    previously i could fly indefinetely.
i exchanged my modem and checked all connections(roadrunner cable)
i tried a ping plotter but am not savy enough to interperet it ..yet. and i was unable to import a screen shot for ya. also im not sure how to save a screen shot in windows to show you my device manager stuff.  i dont get kicked of the internet when i surf ..just AH and AH2. i get the lost upd switching to tcp message.  i try running 'end it all' and that isnt helping.
   system...
  winxp
 pent4 3.0 800 fsb hyperthreading
 2 gig corsair ram
 ati 9800
 sb audigy zxsomethin

the game runs and looks beautiful just keep getting booted.

ok skuzzy i think i know whats up.
i read other post related to irq's
i have moved sound and usb cards without removing the drivers.so i think i need to remove all drivers from the cards and reinstall them.
and i saw your not supposed to put anything in slot 1,right where my sound card is.
im learning way too much about pc's.
 thnks,
 larry

You hit the nail on the head.  What happened when you moved the sound card, is it started sharing an IRQ with your network card, and USB adapter.  This is a bad combination.  Garantees disco-mania operations.
Sounds cards must be on thier own IRQ.

I wish Microsoft would let Windows complain about things like that.

That looks pretty good.  Better than before.  You probably have a bunch of dead drivers laying around though.  It's tough to correct this type of problem.  If you removed the driver for the device, before you physically moved it to another slot, you should be fine.

The graphics problem is solved by updating the video card driver.  Need at least Catalyst 4.3 or later.
