Arlo, do you want to persuade me that there is no health-care for mentaly disabled in the US? Or maybe that your country reached a degree of personal freedom when people like you don't get locked up in a room with soft walls?...

Boroda, that is Ensign Checkov from the old Star Trek series. It was supposed to be some time in the future, so the Starship Enterprise had an international crew.

Of course the Captain was an American (as were most of the crew) and, in fact, Checkov was the only Russian to ever appear in the whole Series, and he was a lowly Ensign. Heck, even alien beings from other planets were promoted over Checkov.

I can assume what this means is that we had already defeated the Soviet Union and Checkov was the last Russian left alive.

It was a great series- didn't you get this is Russia?

I didn't see original Star Trek series from the 60s, but I played Star Trek game on IBM/360 computer back in the 80s. I remember Checkov was responsible for something like navigation or maybe life support?...

They showed only new series here, I think that were made in late-80s.

Funny thing is that I saw one episode when I was in the US in 1989. Can you imagine how surprised I was when 12 years later the first episode I occasionaly saw in Russian was the same that I saw in the US?
