This was more practical than forcing people - newbie included that don 't even know how - to every time type /.squelch 1 (with a missed key or two thrown in thats a lot of typing). This way much more economical, people who enjoy the trash need only tune a channel once. Instead of a daily tune-out it is a once in a lifetime tune-in. Quite sensible.
I guess from our side of things hitech could have just reset the channels to default and taken channel 1 off the default channel list - but this must have been more practical from their side.
Zanth, you hit the nail on the head. People confuse the right to speak, with a right to be heard. Well, there is no right, Constitutional or otherwise, to compel people to listen to you.
