This is not a "were so good" post. But the truth is, its not easy to stay alive in the main. You have sky full of uber planes, and pilots who know how to use them.

I cringe everytime I see "This sux" "How can you guys play this" ect. in the buffer. We are short handed. And we need these new people. We really need an ACA type arena. Fields closer togeather, dar on all the time. That sort of thing. Existing accounts should not be allowed in there.(This will keep torque from killing the baby seals). And when they reach 100 kills they should be booted over to our gentile handeling  .

OH. And trainers should cruse the joint trying to drum up business, when it suits them.

The trainers no doubt help build the new guys confadence up. But the only thing that will really do this is repeated sucess. Training can only take you so far. Fighter ace does this very well with there system. ICI porked this, in the ACA, when they locked in the easymode crap. ACA players knew they were playing a different.

Let a new guy have a few multi kill missions. And get to feeling a little chesty. Before the horrible thruth hits home.

In the mean time, I suggest this. I heard a "how do you guys do this. Im out of here" message the other night. The buffer filled up with the usuel CYA, DONT LET THE DOOR HIT U IN THE BUTT, sort of thing. I got on and suggested he go to the training arena before he gave up. Please dont be so flippent with these people. We need them. Try to help them out.

I think that is the idea of the training arena.

I've been in there several times trying to help new people even tho I'm not a trainer.

I think it's a good idea for all Vets to go in there from time to time to help out.

If more people would help the new guys word would spread faster about how good this sim really is.

Cannon-

Believe it or not, the ACA exists already in AH. It's called the Training Arena.

Many people come to the TA for help, true, but some just come for a few minutes of madness before or after logging into/out of the MA. In the TA there is always dar, killshooter is off, and there is always a fight going.

The only thing the TA doesn't have is scoring, and that is a good thing IMHO. This will allow people to do the silly things that teach without having the card being affected.

I think the trainers have put a lot of effort into making a presence in the MA and the TA (at least when I'm in, anyway). We are somewhat anonymous with ordinary handles (which is what I like), but we are there.

Mighty they know its a training arena. It can only go as far as it goes. They cant really test themselves against others, in a full game atmospher there

Cannon that is true but it IS a place to start.

I've seen guys go into the training arena to get a quick feel of flight and then have a Vet take them to the Main to show them what it is like THEN come back to the training arena so the newbie can learn what he did wrong.

If more people would take the time to go into the training arena like I said earlier then the transition from newbie to vet wouldn't be as painful.

ACA as such should be REALLY BORING as to push people forward to main arena... how ?

2 fields - 5 miles apart.
No strat targets, nothing spectacular.
Hell, make it in a vulcano which has walls to 40.000 so that nobody can climb out per se...

after a week or two - people should move on....

CANNON, 1st I appreciate your efforts with regard to the "newbies". In the end our enjoyment will be greatest if the community grows.

Personally, I think the TA is a blast to fly in, often there are some pretty good sticks in there and some pretty good furballs can occur. I've never seen you there (then again I'm only there an hour or two at a time).

Stop on by sometime.
