1 reason id like channel 1 back
« on: June 18, 2004, 10:48:21 AM »
People come in with tech questions, or need advice
for things like Video cards and such. without
channel 1 they lose 2/3s the help available.

probably dont realize the tech support/questions
work we save HTC crew from answering by
helping people in arena.  alot of people dont
read the bbs so dont see the problem solvers, but
we do, and bring the answers back to people
who need them.

i and others have helped alot, and i mean alot of
people just the last 3 days with  problems in AH2
and with video/cpu questions to help run AH2.

if channel 1 hadnt been there, there would still be
alot of frustrated pilots not playing AH2.

Set a channel to 200
this is an all country channel, it was just as busy last night as was chan 1 in AH1, if someone has a question I can't answer I have been telling peeps to tune to 200 and ask

While I appreciate some of us did try to help new players on channel 1, all too often many others would also come back with "Alt-F4" in response to a question.  New players can still ask on their country channel for help and I think are less-likely to get the "Alt-F4" treatment.  As 200 has to be deliberately tuned, I don't think that one will go - otherwise all the 200+ range would have to go with it, and I think that is very doubtful.  :)

Channel 1 obviously used to be available as default.  Channel 200 needs to be manually tuned.  It's your choice if you tune to Channel 200.  I understand that HTC were very concerned at the detrimental effect Ch 1 can have on customers, especially new customers/youngsters etc., and quite often wasn't a very good advertisement for their company.  Their decision to remove it as default would benefit AH rather than harm it.

I prefer no Ch 1, however, as you mention, newbs asking for help could prove a small problem.  Only suggestion I can think of is that a new kind of help button being made available on the clipboard.  Once pressed it could transmit a request for help on Ch1.  Any trainers/helpers online could then private message the individual.  I know it's a bit of a pain but a possible work around.  Obviously their first port of call could be to ask country channel and hope that they have someone helpful online.

Naaa, Alt-F4 or " press enter twice"is a right of passage. An initiation to the community  so's to speak. I'll still give the Alt-F4  or more likely " Press Enter twice" answer on occasion. then will give the right answer..

Honestly Training Arena is the place newbies should be shuffled off to for first flight by default - certainly not Maiun Arena.  IKn MA they just get pissed off and quit.  The qulaity of help in MA is not of high caliber anyway, there should be other arrangements.

Why not have a specific "Help Channel" like 201?  New guys can tune to it and ask minor questions - veterans can tune to it and lend a helping hand.  Its the same idea with teh channel one change - No one is 'forced to bear the the overwhelming weight of minor questions clogging the open channel.'

IMO, questions on channel 1 never did bother me, the incredibly stale alt-f4 gag was boring :)  We need new material :)

A question I have asked and still haven't truely gotten an answer I really find acceptable. I understand HiTechs reasons for not having or even liking Ch1 to a point.

But you are going to take it away and give us another Ch1 it really makes no sense at all.

Like I said a month ago when we first lost Ch1.

We should just have Ch1 off by default when we enter the game. And if we want to have it we should have the choice to be able to turn it on and off.

Thats what channel 200 does, and that is the reason hitech said online. Now YOU have to make the CHOICE to tune to the open channel instead of it being forced upon you.

So the guys that used to have to go thru the. Squelch 1 ritual every time they logged on DONT HAVE TO ANY MORE!
A welcome change. As would a perma Squelch list for (range channel).  This makes for a relaxed atmosphere for us Goody Two Shoe types. And for the New customers this will provide the "What they dont know, wont hurt them nor their children/ family/ Ect. situation" Wize move for HTC... Kudos. HT
