Squealing sound problem
« on: June 18, 2004, 02:21:32 PM »
If i'm on for maybe 20 minutes, time varies, sounds are all normal and fine then I hear this strange crackeling sound, then everything is fine for about 30 to 40 seconds then squealing, popping, grinding, along with several others sounds starts.  It tends to be Rythemic at any rate LOL.

kinda squeal-grind-pop and repeat for maybe 1/2 a sec for maybe 5 sec then it changes to some other combination and some times it jussst a high pitched squeal that goes on and on then stops to be replaced by somethin else.

Once it starts won't stop until I get out of AH then it's fine.

Oh and Disco after Disco after Disco :(

Have onboard sound and a SB PCI512 with latest driver I could find from SB people.  Onboard was disabled but re-enabled last nite and gonna try it in AH today and see how it does.
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Usually suspect a driver problem, but you already did that.....  You could try going to DxDiag.   Click start / run / DxDiag / wait tilll it does its stuff then on sound tab reduce acceleration a notch and see it if helps - more notches if needed.  This may not work at all but it is something to try.

Also download and run these free tools:

a spyware scanner/fixer:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

a free online virus scan (if you dont want to install anything):
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

or download this free antivirus package (really good software):
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

if your system is not clean, trying to fix other things can be cyclical.

OK removed SBPCI512 card and now using Saitek x45 USB.

Using onboard sound set to basic acceleration.

Will let you know how that works.

Have AdAware already and using AntiVir free version of anti-virus software but thinkin of going back to AVG.

Also have Spybot S&D and SpywareBlaster.

Maybe I got too much stuff also have SpywareGuard runnin.

Part of my problem is windows TShoot is running and really screwin with my removes and installs.  Thinkin I need to get ahold of maxtor RE a possible hard drive problem too.

Oh BTW all that stuff is turned off but ZoneAlarm when I go into AH.

Think I finally may have fixed my squealing problem.

Unistalled the SB card and removed it from system.  Activated the onboard sound.  Went to Saitek X45 as the CH stuff is half analog.

Started losin in game sounds almost right away :(

finally got discusted with the situation and reinstalled SB card and CH stuff. after removeing Saitek and disabling onboard sound.

Wonder of Wonders so far no more sound problems but still getting disoc's.  Had 3 tonite for 6 hours of flyin so not too bad i guess :(
