MSFS Graphic engine?
« on: June 20, 2004, 04:24:02 AM »
I  was playing Flight Simulator 2002pro today and the graphics looked great. They  also played very well on my P3 600mhz computer. So Why can't AH2 use that graphics engine for there game???

Pretty... and useless.

If many people feel that AH2 runs marginally on their computer, how do you think any MS crap would be welcomed?

In MSFS, if you look past the obvious eyecandy, you'll notice that the instruments update less than the general refresh rate. Bad.

I also hate the time it takes to draw all the pretty graphics when you change the views.

I'm glad that HTC will never go down the same road that MS has done with their flightsims.

All in all I find the MS stuff to be pretty, but IMO unplayable.

Another thing to consider.  How much did you pay for FS2002Pro?  $50 bucks?  I am assuming you purchased it when it first came out in 2001.  Now how many people worked to build that engine?  What kind of budget?

Now, FS2002 is about equal to Aces High VI.  MS has been building their flight sims since the early 80s.  They got a bit more time and money invested in their game.  How many disks did you have to load?  As I recall it's 3 or 4 CDs at about 600 Megs a disk versus less than 100 Megs for AHII.  And if you really want to be impressed, buy FS2004.  Yeah, the graphics are incredible, but try flying multiplayer in it.  It jumps all over.  AHII is the most incredible MP combat sim I have played.  500+ players online and still playable.

The graphics engine for MS FS2002 is intense.  But as stated above, it belongs to MS and they are kind of picky about copyrighted material and such.

But just you wait.  I don't think you have seen what AHII can really do.  Stay tuned and see.

Most of the space is required by many texture files and the map of whole world.
Aces High maps are only sandboxes and there are much less detailed ground textures.

Multiplayer engine has also little to do with the graphics engine :)

However FS graphics engines wouldn't be the best for AH style game though.
I'd rather have it on OpenGL engine :)
