Does your joystick/throttle slide around?
« on: June 19, 2004, 07:40:40 PM »
Mine doesnt anymore!  As with all joysticks, mine has those little rubbery feet things, that after 3 months of doritos and beer...just aint working that well anymore.  The solution....laminate floor underlayment:eek:

I put down that Pergo stuff, and used the 3 in 1 green underlayment....thru desperation I cut a small left over piece to try and hold my joystick down late on a sunday night.....that was 3 months ago.  This stuff holds like its welded to my desk.  Its only 1/8th of an inch thick, but it is spongy enough to let the stick or throttle 'seat in' and it just doesnt move.  Course if you want to move them, its not sticky...you just left them up and when your ready, you put the padding and stick back and its just as good as before.

It costs $30 or so for a roll...so I dont think something you want to 'buy'....but keep your eyes open for some...it is a miracle.

I use Velcro to hold my Joystick & throttle down.  That way I can take it off the table & put my workmat over the fuzzy stuff.

Velcro here for JS too, but my pedals are free floating while my Thttl is bolted down to the Left sit of the sim pit.  the biggest problem with my Simpit plan was mounting the JS  in such a way as to still be able to get in and out of it.  I ended up with something a lot like a P39, and a little cramped but at least every thing stays put now.

TY Ya'll,

yes the track ball is free floating on a shelf attached to a rib on the right side, the Keyboard ended up on a bracket attached to the rib above the mouse shelf, and the JS mount slides in to the instrument panel when the JS is removed.

I orignally had a H.O.T.A.S.S. that mounted the JS and Thttl on platforms extending up from a wooden cresent on the floor, but this was hard to store between uses and didnt provide the immersion I wanted not including controll devices and computer I'm in about 250.00 300.00 for materials.  I made the Simpit the same size as the desk it replaced and have actually freed up room as there is no chair in front of the desk now.  To get back to the thread, some form of attachment for the Control set up is a must, Missing a shot becuse you controller slid sideways is a bumer.

More Pix,

The Base frame, before assembly.

I dunno how you fly with your stick up in your face like that.  I much prefer to have it down on my lap/between my legs, like it really was. :)
