Bugs bugs bugs....
« on: June 27, 2004, 05:20:51 PM »
Lets see, constant disco's with Host connection lost message, once about 50 others disco'd at same time (will need my tiger points back), GV's that dont even smoke when a 1k egg dropped directly on them (have pic, gv sitting in crater) planes up from field with fighters disabled (have pics of that one too) Text buffer problem...cursor is visable but no radio bar and it wont close so keyboard commands are inaccessable, and of course the planes that shoot out your engine oil while from behind while moving in opposite direction.
As far as the airplane models, the spitfire, a plane known for it's legendary maneuverability and carefree flight now handles a dive like a 38 and stalls with even the slightest stick input. I quote William J. Skinner, 31st Fighter Group, Pomigliano Italy 1944"...the Spit had excellent maneuverability and rate of climb and no restrictions on maneuvers performed. The British never gave us any flight manuals, just word of mouth. We'd ask these guys what we could or couldn't do and they'd say...'Hell, you've got a fighter plane, you can do anything you want....straight down, full throttle....put your feet on the upper rudder pedals and pull back as hard as you can. Nothings going to happen.' You couldn't do that with many other planes."
{Fighters of World War II, Lowe & B Hould Publishers}
Why it's flight characteristics were changed so drastically is a mystery to many. Thank you for your time.

Great attitude. I can understand your frusterated, but not "everyone" expiriences all these problems. I agree a vast majority does tho. You are not really asking for help, just kind of sharing the input. Dunno how HTC would respond to that heh. No disrespect, just telling what I see.

To put ya in the right direction what are your system specs? This could help solve the problem of the muiltiple disco's. Post your specs and we'll see if we can help you with that. As for the mass disco, that was deffenetly something with the server. Skuzzy could tell ya more about that. Do you have all the latest drivers downloaded for your vid/soundcard?

Connection problems could also explain why a GV could withstand a 1k egg. Either that or his connection was not so good. I hear gv's are very easily damaged now, so that brings me to the conclusion it had to do with connection issues.

As for the radio bar and cursor incident you had, I can not help you there. I have seen people that have been keeping up with the updates are having trouble. What I mean is, the updates are not "updating" properly. The solution to many of these problems was  to, instead of downloading patches, delete the current version of AH and the directory, and download the full version of the newest patch. This may or may not help, it has helped others, and I'd say give it a shot. GL, post back your specs ect.

BTW does your cursor problem have anything to do with this recent posted problem?

My text buffer problem is a little different. I have full control of my joystick, but with the buffer "open" as it were, I cannot use my keyboard or it just types a message, although I cannot see what I am typing at all. Just a minor bug but one that needs addressing none the less.
As far as my system specs go, I'm at the bottom of the food chain. I have a 1.2GHz Celeron(UGH!!) with 384 RAM and a FX5200 PCI video card w/ 128 Megs ram. I am buying a 2.2P4 processor with an intel MoBoard but it's going to take a few weeks to scrape up the cabbage.(Mortgage company has a poor sense of humor about the monopoly money I tried to give them last month, I guess they dont play AH!) Do you think I'll have any problems installing the new board in a 1 year old gateway. As far as the physical size of the board, it will fit, but I was wondering if I need anything else besides cooling fans and RAM (existing power supply is a 350watt) Any more help you can offer is greatly appreciated XtremeJ. Thanks.

Fish, you might have a problem integrating the mobo into a propriatary case. I'm not sure how gateway does it, but compaq, HP amongst others have different connections for power button, reset switch, HDD LED, ect...which wont work with standard ATX mobos.

So, you might be looking at having to get another case. Unless you want to spend the time with a magnifying glass, soldering iron, a trip to radio shack for parts, just to adapt the propriatary connectors to use on the new Mobo so you can just turn it on.

You can get a new case with power suplly for around 30-60 dollars.
I would reccomend a 400-450 watt power supply for any "growth" that you would like to do down the road.

Also, going with you own case, ect...will make upgrading things easier than trying to stay within the bounds of propriatery computer.
You'll have more options down the road.

I'm redoing a friends pc right now, well in the planning stages. He's going to purchase a new case, Mobo processor and ram, and probably be looking at a new video card..middle of road.

Figuring we can knock it out for around $500-600. Looking at a p4, 2.8ghz, 1gb ram, decent 128mb vid card and new case. Ram is the one thing bringing the price up so much.

Anyway, basically the only thing we're salvaging from his old pc are the Harddrives, and CDR ,burner and dvd
