I know you guys are busting his chops, but remember, there's good money to be made being a character actor.

Some guys who's faces you recognize but who's names you don't know:

M. Emmet Walsh
Brion James
Joe Turkel
James Hong

They all had parts in one of the greatest movies to come out of the '80s, but you don't even know their names (well, except maybe for Walsh).  If Hollywood wanted an actor to play a particular stereotype, they called one of these guys.  If you saw James Hong you'd say "Hey, that's they guy from "Seinfeld", you know, in the Chinese restaurant one!"

Jack Elam is another actor who was a character actor in Westerns and became somewhat famous as he got older and got roles in different genres, including light comedy work.

If you find a niche for yourself, exploit it until you can get an opportunity doing something else.  If the "crazy redneck" thing works, use it!
