Computer shuts off when trying to enter MA

Howdy folks.  This may have been discussed before, but my computer shuts off when I try to enter the Main Arena.

Does anyone have any suggestions what may be happening to cause this?

I'm running Windows 98 Version 4.10.  

512 MB of installed memory.

Intel Celeron CPU 1200 MHz.

Video adapter is NVIDIA GeForce2 Ti.


The game downloaded and installed ok, and am able to play offline.  When I try to play online, the CPU shuts off and reboots to ScanDisk (blue screen) soon as I actuate the "OK" tab for the MA.

No firewall is running, and virus scan is shut off before attempting to play online.


Far as bribes go, will cut anyone who helps me in on a sweet deal I recently became privy to via e-mail from Nigeria.  Just send me your e-mail addy and I'll forward you the information and a chance to get rich.

That is a pretty hard crash.  Usually indicates something is severely corrupt.  This oculd be in many areas of the system.  Going online, the only difference is the use of the Internet connection, but do not let that fool you into thinking it is only network related.
Any driver in the system interacting with another driver could cause this.  For example, the network driver may be fine, but the sound card driver is colliding with some resource the network card needs.

1)  Check and update the video card drivers.
2)  Check and update the sound card drivers.
3)  Check and update the network card drivers.
4)  Run a thorough virus scan to see if any bad guys are afoot.
5)  Run Adaware and SpyKiller to see if they find any bad guys as well.
6)  Visit Microsoft's update site to see if there are any critical patches or service packs for Internet Explorer (they no longer support Windows 98).
