Help for AH II

Here are some directions and a utility to safely remove old Detonator drivers before you install the new ones.
http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=detonatorrip&menu=0

Basically you want to change your video adapter to a standard VGA adaptor with the Add New Hardware option in Control panel or change it thru Display Adapter, then with add/remove programs option, remove your nVidia driver. Then run this utility to be sure all has ben removed and then install the new video drivers.

This was from my memory so double check this with the instructions on the webpage I have linked above.

It is a program designed to help you uninstall Nvidia drivers.

The BASIC steps are
1)uninstall nvidia drivers from Add/Remove programs
2)after reboot install standard VGA drivers
3)after reboot install latest nvidia drivers
4)*optional* after final reboot i usually reinstall DirectX

With Detonator Destroyer, it gives you a walk through pop up window telling you what to do.  You launch and run DD 1st, your told to uninstall the Nvidia drivers, and then go BACK to DD and it destroys the hard to delete traces of the Nvidia drivers so you get a clean install.

Hope this helps.  Make sure you are using the lates 56.xx driver version.

Whats the difference betwen Detonator Destroyer and Detonator R.I.P.  or so minor it doesn't matter? I linked to RIP, I thought it was a newer one but either should work.

Fuze, I am pretty sure you are right, Detonator RIP is indeed the newer version. It is my understanding that Detonator Destroyer works better for removing older drivers, in older systems, with older cards. It might be a good idea to look at the notes for both.

On advice from Skuzzy, I'm running the older drivers for my GeForce 3 Ti 200, I think they are 28.32 or somewhere around that. The reason is that it wouldn't run AH I with newer drivers. I run AH II about the same as I did AH I, about 85 FPS (vsync on) most of the time, dropping to as low as about 40 FPS. I MAY try newer drivers now that AH I was slipped this mortal coil. I'm going to get a new card, this one is a terrible choke point on my rig.

I was thinking that HTC said GeForce 2 cards simply would not run AH II because of some issues with the code and how it works with DX9. Some may have found a workaround.

I remember one point about the GeF2 cards, it was the Ultra version they were using I believe which is the higher end of that model line.
I went ahead and got the latest ones to solve my z-buffer issue on my GeF4 Ti4200 I use now. I only have a Athlon XP1500+ which runs @1,333 and I'm dipping into the 20s in shift F1 mode.
Time for me to dip into something else to bump my frame rate up.

I'm running a Barton 2500+ Mobile at 2500MHz, and 512MB of PC4000 RAM (220FSB Dual Channel aggressive) to get where I am, so I'm pretty sure the GeFarce 3 Ti 200 is my bottleneck. I may bite the bullet and buy a Radeon Pro 9800 (I'll get a refurb from NewEgg if I buy that high end of a card). As good as my card is running AH II now, I hate to take a chance on updating my drivers. I'm sure it will go all the way, one way or the other. Either killer results, or a total disaster. My luck it will be a disaster, of epic proportions.

Hell Last night I was dipping into the lower 20's in shift F2 mode.
but it would also zoom into the 80s at a moments notice. and often from one to the other in the blink of an eye reguardless of  graphic or sound situation.
Hell I'd be happy if I had framertes in the upper 30s if it would just be stable

Ran wonderfully freash out of beta
But with each patch it seems to be getting more and more unstable
Tried everything from moving the sliders to  adjusting my sound acceleration.
Next move is Im going to uninstall then reinstall everything. Game, Vid drivers, sound drivers, DirX
And see if that helps
and if that dont work. Im gonna practice  punting with my wifes cats LOL
Sure that wont help but it will make me feel better.
And after all. they are only cats LMAO
