Need advice
« on: June 27, 2004, 11:27:09 PM »
Im needing some advice on getting the most out of my system for AH2.

My system is:

 AMD XP2100
 512 PC2100 RAM
 GF4 Ti4600 128

I havent had a whole lot of trouble with AH2, but its just doesnt look all that great and my frame rates seem to be dropping more and more. At one time during beta I was getting 70 fps, the other night it dropped to 20-24.( in AH1 it would never go above 60 and I could never figure out why) It was back up in the 40s last night.  Keep in mind I dont know a hell of a alot about how my computer works. So if you guys have some hints as far as settings or what ever Im all ears. You may have to break out the playdough and finger paint to explain it to me:D

Maybe turn all your sliders up, that could give you peak performance. Also anything that you have running in your startup, disable it.. It takes up some virtual memory. Might just be your connection, but I have heard miracles happen with puters before. :D

Vid card settings in my computer. I beleive there is also one in AH2, but I'm not sure. Also you might want to fool around with your resolution. You can implement that in AH2. 1 more thing, when you play AH, and you bring up the FPS. What is the memory being used. It should say something like "120 mem - 90 used". Then we can go from there

Ok, I found the sliders and Ive played with the res a bit. When I put it at 1024x768 I was getting 100 fps. I turned on the antialiasing at 4x and the Anisotropic at 4x. I dont know wtf either of those are or what they do. The game stilled looked kinda crappy but then i upped the res to highest setting and it looked pretty good. The frame rates dropped back to 30-40 though. The video memory was 128 with 90 used.

Buzkil Vsync off is not a good thing.

The only reason you get higher rates is because it may be doing partial writes.

IE only the top half of the screen this time,
part of the bottom next.

Can lead to some very strange visual effects.

the Anisotropic at 4x - turn this off

set aa to 4x and go back to 1024x768

set your sliders in the setup in AH  video to performance (way right)

set ground detail to as low as possible and textures to load to 1

turn vsync back on, check your adapter settings in windows, XP like to lock at 60hz - should be able to get at least 90 maybe 120 at 1024x768 depending on monitor. with vsync on, this will be your fps max, if you get it that high
