Today is the sixth anniversary of the passing of Marine Maj. General Marion E. Carl hero of the battle of Midway where he flew with VMF 223.  MGen. Carl was murdered in his home while attempting to defend his wife of 55 yrs. from a home invader.  He went down swinging at the age of 82 yrs. from a shotgun blast to the face.  The 19yr. old who killed him is on death row in Oregon for the murder.

He lived in Roseburg, Oregon just down the road from my Grandma. As Comanding General of MCAS Cherry Point he would sit on the side of the road, radar people, and give out speeding tickets.

An odd guy, buy a true hero nontheless. The Japanese war machine couldn't do what a crackhead loser did, really sad.
