Buff Formation

This evening a few of us launched an NOE bomber run toward an enemy base.  The drones never came out of trail formation and refused to follow the lead plane and eventually blew up due to range restriction.  

If the drones will not form up until a certain altitude is achieved, could there also be a distance travelled in the calculation for forming the drones up so this type of raid is possible?

You must have been too low. Drones wont fall into formation untill your at a certain hight. Here's what I do : take off, maintain climb till drones form up THEN drop to NOE. Works for me everytime
