Performance issues with AH2

We've been working on performance and stability issues that some people have had. It's been problematic for us because fixing an issue on one particular card/driver/memory configuration can create new ones for a different config that was working fine before. There's been quite a bit of work done in this area, but before we put it out in patch form, we plan to make it an optional download. We hope to have this ready to go tomorrow. We appreciate your patience if you're having a problem. Our efforts have been totally committed to getting these issues resolved.

Would HTC put AH1 back for a 3 month period till AH2 works itself out with all the very enthusiastic AH2 players that are jiz.. er spamming themselves all over the General Forum how great it is regardless and will Beta test it more?

I'd donate 3 month dues right now.

That aint gonna happen. To big a step backwards. If more folks had come onboard and beta tested it with us these problems coulda been avoided.. If they fired up AH1 again everybody would go there and it would just be a handful of us beta testing again.
Crap now I gotta redo my cool sig.....crap!!! I cant remeber how to do it all !!!!!

That 45 bucks would help to defray the cost of those two 74GB Western Digital 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drives I have my eye on...

>> If more folks had come onboard and beta tested it with us these problems coulda been avoided..<<

Eventually this rhetoric has to stop, as its sort of starting to sound parroted. Throughout beta, people complained of screen freezes. There are still screen freezes. The film viewer was not available in beta. The film viewer has lots of problems. We can sit here a wave pompoms all we want, but as is , its still beta. I know it will get better and its kinda fun watching the changes, but to pretend all the issues are *OUR* fault, is just plain stupid, and the pompoms are getting tiresome.

I disagree.
I've been playin the beta arena only for the last 3 weeks it has been up, and I must say that many pilots were there, and the very most of main problems we see now were already well known at that time.
IMO HTC simply underestimated the hurdle of solving last major bugs.
Anyway going back to AH1 would not be very reasonable right now. I'm confident HTC guys will solve stuttering/low FPS probs soon.

I was having bad screen freezes, planes stopping in mid flight then darting ahead, shooting blanks etc.I un installed the previous version, which had been loaded patch by patch,re-installed the full version, then got the test version in the announcements section.Big time improvement, its much smoother, higher frame rates in furball, and when i pull the trigger watermelon goes boom

If HTC actually asked people to come and beta test AH2 then they perhaps would have done so...

We did multiplie time maniac.

But Im realy not complaining we hade pleanty of testing time on AHII. But until all people are trying it you still do not have a full sample of how it runs. Most low end users were not beta testing, just sort of the nature of things.

As AHII stands now there realy are only 3 Issues.

1. There is one none video releated CTD, this manifest itself as multiple people CTDing at the same time.
All thow ALL ctd's are a real pain, This one could take a bit to find. As soon as this one happens on my computer, it will be fixed.

2. Video releated system issue.
AHII Has become more resource intensive.

Depending on the balance between your video memory and system memory the best sceem of how to swap, resources changes.

This is what we have been working on, in the current test version we have totaly new texture loading and swaping system. From first results post it apears to have done the trick. Note it is realy written for the small memory case. Expanding it by an option for lager memory systems is fairly trival. This would make it even work smother.

Well, I have a low end system, and I went into AHII beta for about 3 weeks before release.  I saw tons of stuff get fixed in that short time.  Furthermore, I've now tweaked my optional setups so that my frame rate is more than acceptable most of the time.  Even during the beta I already liked the flight and shooting models better.  I like the selectable skins a lot too. Personally I think AHII is a vast improvement, and I'm not having any problems with it right now. (Well - except for frame rates near CV groups in a furball - but I had that problem in AH1 too).  Start up AHI again if you like, but I ain't going back.
