Ha-112 radial.  Japan also got the MG 151 cannons from Germany by Submarine.  They received 800 of them from Germany.

There is more minutia (smaller details) if need more, let me know what you want!

There were very few Ki-61-IIs built, mainly because the engine plant was bombed by B-29 raids. Thus, a radial engine was fused to the 61-II body resulting in the Ki-100. Not many of the 100s were built, either. Even fewer 61s equipped with the 30 mm cannons.

Also, there were not many Ki-61-Is equipped with the MG 151 20 mm cannons in the wings, either.

The largest number of 61s built were the Ki-61-Ib and Ki-61-I-KAIc. The KIAc (about 40% of the total number of 61-Is built) were equipped with 2 Ho-5 20 mm cannons mounted in the cowl and 2x12.7 mm MGs in the wings. The majority of the rest of the 61-Is (Ki-61-Ibs), had 4x12.7 mm MGs (cowl and wings).

Another main difference between the Ki-61-1b and Ki-61-1-KAIc is the KIAc was able to haul 2x250 kg bombs. The KAIc version also took a small performance hit, a bit slower, slightly higher wing loading, etc. when compared to the Ib.

Not sure the actual number of aircraft makes a difference when deciding what version to model, but those are the facts. I can dig up actual numbers if anyone is interested.

Kawasaki lets the good times roll.   It was a great plane alright. Pappy Bouyington makes mention of it in his book.
