Joint Operations : Tips n Tricks.
« on: July 13, 2004, 05:01:12 AM »
Hey all i compiled this from the Novaworld forums, hope it helps!

~~Vehicles~~

- You can change the vehicle speed using Z, X, and C buttons. Z being low gear, X is Mid Gear, and Z is High Gear. – Sphire

- You can disable mouse steering while driving by holding down the right-mouse button. Use it to look around – Sphire

- When flying a helicopter, you can orbit a target by holding down W and A or D. This will also turn mouse steering off so that you can look down at the target you are orbiting. This allows the gunners to get a solid platform to fire from. - I like tacos

- While you're in a vehicle you can use Shift key + the Seat # to quickly change positions within the vehicle. Works great for quickly changing gunner positions or from going from driver to gunner... – schu

- Press "E" to raise altitude and "Q" to lower altitude in a helicopter - tiwaz-MW-

- There is a little dark grey 'X' in front of the copters that can shoot. You have to line that up to your target. The weapons on the helos are fixed so at whatever angle the nose is pointing is where you will fire towards. - tiwaz-MW-

- Low flying choppers don't seem as easy to spot. – EyeInStein

- Stop your transport outside an encampment - giving your passengers some time to get off, oriented and in position of their own chosing. – EyeInStein

- If you don't want to hold down those orbit keys, you can fly free hand w/ mouse by just watching your gps and stay just outside the zone ring of the opfors base. Also, make sure you check the layout of your crew in the chopper. Flying circles around a base is useless if the gunner is on the opposite gun. - Eclipse-EVOL

~~Weapons~~
- If you choose the engineer slot with a mortar for your weapon team with another player who can be your laser sighter, seems a few people were laser pointers yesterday, but no mortar men near them to provide the attack. This looks like it could be a nice addition to the player options if players work together and perform their attacks as a team... – KillroyV

- I dont know if this is much of a tactical thing, but I load up a hummer in the back of a loader heli and I use the 50cal like a tail gunner... Fun Stuff. - Teller

- Use your claymores.... If you are the only one defending a base, drop a claymore at both entrances of the bunker... Someone is bound to try to get in at some point... After dropping your claymores, don't forget to rearm yourself with a new batch from the armory... – schu

~~User Interface~~
- Hit B for binoculars, they work pretty well, even on a chopper. – sphire

- Pressing "U" will show all of the recent conversation. – sphire

- Voice commands are initiated using the F9 and F10 keys, for commands that use the number "10" just hit 0. – sphire

- Hitting Tab during gameplay will display the players list with all the players (it's equal to hitting K on BHD). - DN-Viper

~Advance and Secure~~
- Never leave your bases undefended. Take up a grenade launcher and have fun! Unlimited ammo and can fire fairly rapidly. Really good at base defense and can fire as far as the eye can see. - Briguy992

- The jeeps with machine guns can be taken onto hills for air defense. A couple mobile machine guns, as jeeps are, on the side of hills against a helicopter and the odds are in your favor to beat that copter.. - tiwaz-MW-

- While guarding your own base - don't get too comfy at an openly emplaced weapon - especially if you failed to demolish a chopper that ducks behind a hill - and it doesn't reappear..chances are they are creeping in for a sniper kill. – EyeInStein

- Here’s one for all Pilots. If you’re taking fire fly into the sun putting yourself between your enemy and the sun. I find that the sun glare is very effective in escape and evading trouble. Or attack the opposing forces base coming from the direction of the sun. - Gunny-TNT

- Ground/Water vehicals work better for attacking and taking over a base 90% of the time over using a helicopter. - Wall-BMF

- After you take over a base stick around, hop on a mounted gun and play some heavy defense for 5 mins or so. The easiest kills come from defending with mounted guns. - Wall-BMF

- Remember #'s in the base circle mean a lot! If you find yourself in an enemy base outnumberd 10 to 1 with enemy defenders on .50 cals and APC's, just lay low and hideout in the circle area. Let them try to find you. You can get a lot of kills just hidding in the enemy base circle and waiting for them to cross your path. Also staying alive and not killing anyone can at times be more valuable then killing 3 enemy's and dieing. (this is not TDM, they can spawn back in and you want #'s in their circle!!) - Wall-BMF

- If you are driving a vehicle and you have passengers, especially someone on the 50, do not charge into the base, stop, and bail out.. Move to the outer parameter of the base, outside the sand bags in Kombang, and circle the base a few times to let the 50 gunner spray the camp. Then you want to spiral inside the parameter and circle the bunker a few times so the gunner can clear the inside of the bunker. tiwaz-MW-

- During games hosted by other players, you may be able to change teams
in mid-game. This depends on whether the game is hosted with this option.
To do change teams, press the ~ key (without pressing the SHIFT key)
to open the command line. Enter "server swapteam" (without the quotes).

- Don't rely on grass for cover! Hide behind objects such as trees, rocks, and buildings. Grass will limit your view of what you can see, but your enemys will see you just fine as if there is no grass at all.

- Don't shoot at moving targets! 1 shot 1 kill! Its a lifestyle, and with the tracers and the way this game plays, if you start taking all sorts of shots you are going to be dead real soon.

- Ignore all moving targets, to be a successfull sniper you need to wait for good targets such as, a guy sitting in a chopper waiting to take off, a guy manning a mounted weapon, or a guy standing perfectly still for whatever the reason may be. You may get a few moving target kills but you will probobly last a lot longer in your spot and get even more kills in the long run if you stick to 1 shot 1 kill.

Now for misc tips:

- APC/Stryker is by far the most powerfull weapon/vehical in the game. Use it for defending your base! If there already is one defending then use the SECOND one to go attack with!

- If you want to have the most kills and best ratio in the server, easiest way to do that is to defend your base!

- If your a sniper broading a helo, sit where, or, make sure the pilot can see your gun. so he'll know to take you to a sniper spot and not drop you in a hot LZ.

- If your a pilot, hold down your right mouse botton while flying and look around to see if any of your riders are snipers.

- The more people you can transport during a game the better chance you have to win. Don't joy ride! If your want to do that, do it on your own lan server. It's all so a good time and place to learn flying, as a not to tie up helos in a real game.

- Never leave an armored vehicle parked in the center of your base. If a bad guy gets into it, your going to have a hard time getting him out.

- More riders you have, the farther from the hot LZ you should land.

- If you plan to defend with a mounted weapon, be a sniper! This way if a enemy sniper starts trying to shoot you, you can duck down and try and snipe him out, then go back about your business on the mounted weapon. Also always check the area for snipers before getting on a mounted weapon! They can be really powerfull but if your not carefull about enemy snipers, your just going to be easy kills for them.

- When you're sniping, and you're spotted and can't run away, drop onto your belly and play dead. Relocate when you're unobserved again.

ANTI SNIPER TIPS:

- Always assume there is a sniper looking at you threw his scope waiting for you to stop and stand still... keep moving!

- While warming up a chopper, you can spin left and right, I suggest you do this as it will increase your chances of not being sniped out before you take off. If you are being shot at read the threat indicator and point the chopper with its back towards the threat.

ANTI APC TIPS:

- Don't be intimitaded by an enemy apc/stryker, even if you are alone on foot you can take him out no matter what loadout you have!

- You can shoot apc drivers, gunmen, and passengers with accurate shots threw the windshied.

- 1 stachel is enough to blow up a freshly spawned apc

- 1 direct AT4/RPG hit is enough to make a freshly spawned apc red

- 203's are the next best thing for taking out APC's on foot

- Small arms fire does do damage! Taking out an APC entirely with small arms is not recomended, but if you had direct hits with explosives and run out, small arms can suffice for finishing the job.

- When trying to sneak up to an APC try to keep to the opposite side of where the gun is pointed. Once you get close get low, you can crawl right up next to it under his firable area. Then stand up right in front of the windsheild, he will see you but won't be able to shoot you, you will be to low. Just wait there for a bit to see if he shifts out of the vehical to get you with his gun/knife. Be ready to shift in to the vehical and steal it from him. Once stolen shift+1 to drive the APC far enoug away from the enemy to be in shootable range, then shift+2 to the gun and shoot him.

- If one is in the water, take one for the team, grab a stachel, get in a heli, bail out near the APC, swim up to it and blow it up with a stachel.

- I got this tip from someone (sry i dont remeber there name) under voice commander(v button) change the color of the player thats on your fireteam or squad it will show up on hud map as the color youv chosen.

- Also if you want to plan a attack again use the voice commander and the left mouse button held plus moven your mouse up and down will zoom in and out & the right mouse button held will allow you to scroll around on the map when you move mouse left and right, up and down.(can also be used to find your teammate if you get seperated)

- MORTAR : Dont know if this has been answered yet or not but you need 2 people really. Right Click and point that designator at something, zoom your spin map out and make sure your selecting a correct target, seeing the white circle on the floor (in the spin map). Mortar men, zoom out your spinmap aswell, place the yellow circle where you want it to land, if you cant get it where you want it move closer, but zoom out that spin map it really helps when mortaring or selecting targets.

- MORTAR : The mortar is aimed using the M (map) view. Press M after a target has been designated. It will show as small circle on the map. Use the mouse to move the aiming circle (also seen on the map) to zero in on the target.

- STINGER : Don't shoot your stinger until you've got a good angle or the helo is past you. Firing at a long distance or head on results in poor hit ratio. Usually I pump 3 or 4 clips into the helo after I've fired my stinger.

- During games hosted by other players, you may be able to change teams in mid-game. This depends on whether the game is hosted with this option. To do change teams, press the ~ key (without pressing the SHIFT key) to open the command line. Enter "server swapteam" (without the quotes).

- If like me you have sausage fingers and press the key for the wrong spawn and end up miles from the action with no transport you can choose to die by pressing CTRL+R and then respawn at another point (It will register as a death for all you stat hoe's!!)

- Use the map the watch for teammate deaths-this will give you plenty of time to eat dirt & relay info to others while they head into your killrange.

- Lookup at buildings, trees(there are 'climable' ones)

- PSP's are capped then left with 2 flags(you need to have all flags up to keep that psp long enough to have backup arrive)

- Do not ever in your right mind get in a chopper ride with a wombat!

Regards.
