Once again, I found myself listening to AM radio... wasn't interested in the political knuckleheads, but I found Jim Rome.

I'm not a fan. Every time I listen, I wonder how this moron manages to stay employed and every time I listen, I keep waiting to discover why.

Maybe it's just me. What's the deal? Can someone explain the attraction by his listeners?

Jim Rome is just "Radio Azzhat". The guy is, was, and will continue to be lame. How he become a tough guy by getting his girly arse kicked by Jim Everett is beyond me. I'd rather listen to Limbaugh talk sports.

I don't like him either.  I listen to sports talk radio all day at work and during my commute if I am on four wheels.  He is so in your face,  and maybe thats why he has a following.  What bugs me is is little daily phone in contest on who can narrate the biggest tyrade.  The ironic thing is that the common citizen seems to express their thoughts in a more flowing manner than he does. He expresses himself in the most anoying,  halting manner.

Tony Bruno OTOH, now his show IS entertaining.

It must be snowing in hell, because for once, I agree wholeheartedly with you and Sandman... Rome is a piece of dung. It's no mistake he was parodied in Any Given Sunday (perhaps one of the only redeeming points of that flick).

I think his show is the most entertaining program on AM radio. If you like sports and enjoy sports interviews Jim Rome gets the best ones- if you can, do a search for the Bernard Hopkins interview of a week or two ago, listen to it, then come back here and say Rome sucks.

I started listening to him when he was still on 690 out of LA and only had 4 or 5 affiliates.  The show was great.  Talk about sports some and mostly listen to Rochester, Omaha, LA and a few other towns dis each other.  Plus he had regular callers such as the DeTolla brothers, the Mayor of Poway, Silk and others who were a riot.  I  used to laugh all the time.  However, he got popular and began sucking.  I don't listen at all anymore.

PS There was a baseball player, utility guy who has bounced from several teams and I forget his name that used to call all the time.  This guy would make millions as an inspirational speaker.  I've never listened to someone so high on life and who could make you feel better about everything just by hearing him.  Damn I wish I could remember that guy's name.

I was living in San Diego when he started there.  Loved the show.  Mighty 690.  Best part was making of fun of Moe (the Hacksaw).  I still crack up when I go down there and hear Hacksaw.  "HAVE YOURSELF A GREAT SPORTS WEEKEND."
His schtick can get old but the best part of the show is that he demands so much of the callers.  So many shows have incredibly lame callers.  On his show, if somebody sucks or doesn't have a take, they get the buzzer.  Priceless.

First thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.  Great scene.

The best sports radio around is 1310 The Ticket. Here is some pics from their Summer Bash.

I'm not a big Jim Rome fan.  Though... I find him somewhat middle of the road as far as sports talk shows go.  Of course, "the fabulous sports babe" was at the far end of the spectrum.  Damn... that was a bad sports show.
