TrackIR Question
« on: July 22, 2004, 04:21:39 PM »
I finally got my TrackIR Pro 3D setup and playing in AH2 last night. I'm using the Keymapper application with it to map cockpit views to the rounded square grid. Only one flight with a pony, but landed 2 one assist.

I think I have my tracking as smooth as I can get it. I've also matched the center dead zone in the Keymapper and the lowest speed points for the x and y axis. Then set the speed to rise directly up to 50 linieraly from there. I'm also using a small dot on my hat brim rather than the larger rounded square. It seems harder to hold the larger reflector  inside of a zone for long.

1. Does anyone find themselves moving through the views not by choice most of the time while having trouble holding a specific view for an extended period of time?

2. Do you find when in a lag pursuit following the con in a turn, you are slightly adjusting your body to your visual refrence oposite of the turns angle and suddenly looking out the opposite side of your cockpits front quarter? This happend a lot when just coming into range to fire and I was suddenly looking out a front quarter view. Guess I turn me head to one side a bit.

3. Using mapped keyviews will I get my view transitions smoother with practice, or will there always be just a bit of jerkyness due to the views not being totally seemless?

4. Do you find an problems loosing track of your planes orientation and E state when you are looking back and out while tracking a con, then start pulling up and over, still tracking and changing through your views.  All the while you have not looked forward in your cockpit to check your refrences. You are looking at your con the whole time to come up and around.

5. Do you catch yourself turning your head to get a view, then without thinking trying to really turn your head farther around to get a better look at your con while tracking it? I have to remember it's only 32deg of view that you are tracking through.

If anyone can share some of their own experiences with TrackIR and AH2 it would be appreciated. This technology has alot of promise, even with the issues I'm experiencing. I can imagine how great it will be when Pyro programs native support for it.
