Need help with Radeon 9800 Pro
« on: July 23, 2004, 11:10:08 AM »
I'm running the card above on a P4 1.9 Mhz CPU and 512 RDRAM.
While I'm getting a mid-60's FR I was curious as to what others have found to be the best settings for this vid card...meaning Control Panel vid settings, as well as video settings within the game.

Thanks in advance,
DmdMax

I have the same card. I'm running the game at the same resolution as my desktop (1280x1024x32), I have Anti-Aliasing set at 6x, Anisotropic Filtering set at Application Preference, TruForm set to Always Off, the sliders set to High Quality and Vertical Sync to Always On.

Running the game in 1024 texture size. I *think* I left all the in-game sliders at default.

Can't say I've ever seen it drop below my monitor refresh rate (60Hz). Before the last patch I was getting some stuttering. I chose to pre-load in system ram and it seems to have cleared that up for the most part. But I'll be damned if I don't lose UDP a lot :) Never happens when I first enter... just random times while connected.

Anyhow, the video is nice and smooth. I tried the Omega drivers, didn't really see any improvement, so went back to the Catalyst.

The in-game video settings dont depend entirely on the video card.

You'll have to do some experimenting at different levels to find the sweet spot that will work for you.

i just put a 9800 pro into my system, I forced v sync on but left everything else alone. I did throw out video8.cfg out; so far I have left textures at 128 and load them to ram;

any idea what truform is?

thks, bockk
