After the first takeoff, the Finns and Soviets met co-alt over the Gulf of Finland. The Finns had divided into two sections, attempting a classic bracket maneuver. However, the Soviets managed to keep their energy and started pushing the Finns lower. In the first engagement, the Soviets shot down 6 Finns without loss.

In the second engagement, the Finns had again divided into two sections. The 109s were a bit higher than the Soviets, but the Brewsters were lower. The high 109s had the upper hand and they used it wisely. They succeeded in breaking the Soviet cohesion and shot them down one by one. In the second engagement, the Finns shot down 5 Soviets while losing one 109G2.

In total the Soviets achieved 7 victories, the Finns 5. Therefore, the event was a narrow Soviet victory!
