What does it take to run this game? (Geeeesh)
« on: July 18, 2004, 08:39:10 AM »
I am getting very disappointed with this game. The more I upgrade, and in some cases the next patch, the worse the game runs. I'm running hardware that many others in here run and recommended and yet I might as well be playing PONG. Are there multiple game issues that are yet to be resolved or does it just take a mega computer to run this *&^%$# game? Perhaps AH2 should have stayed in Beta a little longer.

AMD Athlon xp 2800+
1 gig double sided 333ddr ram
Radeon 9600xt 128mb vid
Cable modem
all the latest MS updates, vid drivers, bios

If its game related, I'll wait a little longer, if its computer.... (Censored)

Sorry can't help you but I do concur, there must have been a considerable drop in numbers after they brought this in. I wonder if the others who can play have noticed that. It's despairing to hear you're having problems with a rig like that, I'm sure you can solve them as I've read of others with lesser rigs being able to play, but as most seem to be able to play all other games except this one I think you have a point about it staying in Beta for longer, or perhaps running AHI for a while in parallel if that were possible.

I have a 2500 athelon, a 9500 pro with 128mb and a gig of good ram. It plays ok. 50-60 FPs mostly. But I have to choke down the detail settings to AH1 levels to do so. And I get to watch the ground detail draw in constanlty as I fly arround.

im running AH smooth with a lesser system.

you mention no specific problem, so i dont know where to start diagnosis. frame rate? CTD? studdering? textures? net lag? what?
I don't know what to put here yet.

I think the 'minimum requirements' to run the game with reasonable details etc are slowly creeping up.
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Asus M3N-HT mobo
2 x 2Gb Corsair 1066 DDR2 memory

Running a ...

Asus A7V8X-X  Bios is version 1009
AMD 2500+ Barton
512 system ram
ATI 9800 pro 128  (set at full accel) using latest Cat drivers (Omega drivers are no longer supporting W98)
SBPCI512 soundcard  (set at 3/4 accel) driver is 1999 version as no new one's are available.
Maxtor 200gig HD at 7200 with it's own 10 gig partition for AH
Latest via 4 n 1 (now called hyperon?)
W98se
USRobotics external modem to com 1 set at 37333 max when gaming  (very slow Diaup that max's out at about 42666 even when not gaming)  Add in that I always run ZoneAlarm.

Not currently using any sounds other then stock.  They seemed to cause AH to lockup in sound loops. :(

Gettin between 72 and 40 FPS  No real stutters or screen freezes.  I do get warping of cons from time to time but figure that's the connect.

Res is set to 1024x768.  Monitor is set to 72 hz.  (monitors been acting up so lookin at monitor prices :( )

I don't  preload textures.  Textures set at default 512.  Everything is set to default.

Memory used while in game comes out at about 500m.

Vid mem seems to run right at about 40m or so????

Tex always = 0.0m????

Pretty much all of the above JB. textures are grainy, the game play is jittery......... not quite studdering but just fuzzy all the time....... for lack of a better word, its not fluid and smooth like ah1 was. my frame rates are steadily getting worse, every patch screws them up worse. I was able to play the last beta with a 75 fr down from the steady 84 ( monitor limits) I had in ah1.... Rates are down to average 20-35. I get the occasional freeze frame and targeting is tough given the apparent lag.
i dont play any other sims so I dont know how my system stacks up overall....but it sure as **** does not run this game for **** anymore. At first I thought....BETA,,,,,new game...it will get better.....wrong...it's getting worse...soon I wont be able to log into the game....lol

Which video option are you using in the game Exc?

Preload textures to system memory or to video card memory?
What do you have the maximum texture size set to?

Have you tired the Omega drivers instead the ones ATI puts out? They work wonders for my Nvidia card.

I run a Pentium 4 1700 mhz.   Geforce 3 Ti 200 128 MB video card; 512 MB PC 2700 RAM.  SB LIVE sound card.  Nothing special (well it was nice 3 years ago!) and probably below average for people on this BBS.   I have not updated any of my system drivers in over 2 years!

AH2 is fully playable for me although I have most graphic options turned down to the lower end of the scale (I couldn't care less about eye candy).  I run in 1024 x 768 resolution.   My framerates vary from high 40's in normal airspace to mid 20's when there's smoke or a fleet around.

I could probably squeeze better performance if I experimented with drivers and such, but I don't want to risk messing something up that is working perfectly well enough as is.

Obviously Excaliber your computer is far superior to mine; you should be getting excellent framerates all the time with good graphic detail settings.

try this it helped my system out a bunch:

un-install AHII

delete the HTC directory from your drive.

reboot into safe mode

scandisk

defrag

reboot

uninstall video drivers fully

reboot in safe mode

scandisk

reboot

install latest video drivers for card

reboot

install AHII 2.06 from scratch

reboot

shut down any processes not needed

run AHII

that shoudl help it run better... also read skuzzy's post about running processes in the background here:
