Very nice and congrats. Tell us how the check flight went. Did the guy try to trip you up at all? Was there anything  you should have studied harder?

When you get your pictures post them in this thread.

Now the learning really begins!  Enjoy!

What are rentals your way?  C172s are $82 an hour, wet, Hobbs here.

That is not a bad price LePaul. If you figure you are going to burn 10 gal an hour full rich the price of fuel is $35 for the hour. That means you are getting the plane for $50 an hour.

If you figure that the engine and prop reserve is 24 an hour the rental company is not making that much. Most people don't put more than a couple of hours on a plane a day even if they take it on a trip.

(edit to fix engine reserve. It is 24 an hour not 4 an hour.)

You still in Bangor LePaul?  I rented a 172 down at Bar Harbor a couple years ago and I think it was only $70-75 per hour wet.  Don't know if that's worth the drive for you, just something to think about.

Acadia Air...yea, well as you know, with Tourist Season in full swing up here, its murder to get there since there is only one main road there.

I guess I was spoiled with the old rate...and 9/11 doubling the rates cause of....?  Bah....freaking insurance companies.  But, that's another thread now, isnt it?

Bar Harbor is a great little field...that runway over the ocean can be a lil dicey at night ;)

Thanks guys, the actual check flight wasn't that much of a surprise because I took a practice checkride with the same guy a week earlier, so I knew what was coming.  All in all the ground went from 10-12 and the flying from 12:30 to 2:30-3:00.  He was a real nice guy and had that ability to make you understand complex ideas simply.  I rent the planes for around 85 an hour full wet so it's not too bad.

He didn't do anything to throw me off Habu as he told me that the checkride is nothing more than to see that you meet the standards, nothing more and nothing less.  At the end of the flight he told me everything that I did wrong and could do better on.  I wish I had studied mag compass turns more thorougly as that part I had actually had very little practice.
