New Damage effect
« on: October 12, 2000, 12:22:00 AM »
Just thought of a new damage effect that could someday be added to AH. After listening to 1st Lieutenant David R Braden last firday at the con.I remebered that the bomber pilots wore heated flight suits, electricaly heated flight suits. Let have electrical failures that cuase the heaters to quit and pilot and or gunner starts to shivver the colder he gets the more he shivvers. This could be noticed by increasing the head movement musch faster and uncontrollable. I also remember hearing that the crew of the memphis belle say that the heated flight suits werent that great at very high altitude, could use this effect to keep bombers more honest. Engine damage could take out electricity or a hit to an electrical panel take it out but sound pretty good to me. Be kind of hard to fly when head shaking from shivvers.

I still say we need only a simple mod for buffs.

Degrade bombing accuracy as the buff climbs higher. If they can't hit the field, much less an ack, from 35k they won't go there. If they do they are more of an annoyance than a threat. I think that's a kind of "realistic" way to deal with space shuttles.

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

All HTC has to do is make a correct Norden/'whatever sight' and proper ballistics for the bombs. Then you won't see people sniping acks from 30K. Oh and more clouds over targets...

I think what we have right now are perfectly straight dropping bombs with no drag?

Not sure about that, Fats, but they always hit where the Norden says they'll hit, wind doesn't affect them, and they don't disperse.

I'm not sure how good the Norden optics were, but could you really pick out a 40mm cannon from 30.000 feet? In that case, why did the allies bother with carpet bombing?

I agree that the bombers should be limited to historical altitudes, however I can't agree to limiting them to historical accuracy.

When was the last time you saw a 1000 buff raid?  How about a 800 buff raid?  400?  200?  Even a measly 50 buff raid?

Without that kind of numbers historical accuracy would make bombers useless.  Why fly for 45 minute or an hour and a half if you it is a crap shoot whether or not you damage the target?  Just grab a P-38 or P-47, get there in a quarter the time and have a better chance to hit.

For gameplay reasons, the bombers have to be accurate.

Someone suggested that HTC could remove zoom from the bombsight view.  I think that is a good idea.

Even calibrating the Norden Sight like they do in Warbirds that seems do slow up the bombers a little. I surprized they don't do this in this game.

Well I wasnt realy talking about effecting the accuarcy jsut adding a new damage effect. I dont have a problem with the accuracy I know its for game play reasoning. just would like to see someone get real cold up at those nose bleed alt's.

Didn't P-38 pilots wear a heated suit. I believe it was baby blue and didn't work that well either. I saw on television a while back a p-38 pilot describing the suit. He stated it roasted his bum while the rest of his body was cold. Also he hated the thought of having to bail out over enemy territory and being captured in that baby blue suit.

hi all:

I just dont know why anybody would want to buff from 30k.
If I can get 10k over acks im happy, and have started to learn I dont even need that much alt. I do like to shoot at cons coming to shoot me, that is always fun, but I dont really care to see a F4U-C with cannons that in just a couple pings takes out a wing, but then again, with out the F4U-C, the Rooks would have nothing to fly.
