I'm impressed with the GV game
« on: August 17, 2004, 06:04:33 PM »
The GV game has sure come a long way.  It's become an effective part of base capture and defense and there's a whole lot driving GV's these days.

What I really like is the co-ordination of air and ground.  It reminds me of when buff groups were escorted a few versions ago.  You hardly ever see that any more.

In stead of capping the field I see pilots capping for the gv's so they can race in and tear up some real estate.  I see a lot more spotters now too.

It's time for a new vehicle or two.

to the GV drivers.

I would love to try out more of the GV's and compare them to AH1. But since I have to drive miles and miles (at least it feels that way) to a base just to die because I suck so bad in them I dont bother using them... To attack anyways.

Altho I did land two kills in a tiger last tour. ;)

LTARS look out! :lol

The armor penetration is much nicer than that found in AH1.  You can now get kills with AP when shooting the rear hull armor (I was never able to do this in 1), and HE almost always ricochettes now.  Also, there is a definite change in the model due to obliquity.  In AH1 you were basically assured that if you were within minimum penetration range you would get the penetration.  Now if you hit in the wrong spot, or while the enemy gv is at an oblique angle to your shot you are more likely to get a ricochette, even at closer ranges.

And now that the HE and mg damage has been reduced/eliminated, things are even better in Patch 8.

As it stands, I'm working on updating my tank manual to AH2 specs, and I plan to have the old penetration range and # of penetrations to kill charts.  (M3/Ostwinds/M16s/LVTs are not covered in the manual, however).

Ditto. When I up GVs I primarily act as an ordinance sponge for my teammates.

Maybe you just need to spend a more time in GV's to get better at it. Ask for help, go to the training arena, practice offline?

Training Arena???? Wut is that? haha j/k :D

GV's are great to play with. But if the few years I've played AH I just can't figure out how to live like some of the other Gv nuts do. haha. I am one ping wonder in them. Ping me once and I die. Shoot the other guy 4-5 times and he lives. haha... oh well.

When I log on I'm pretty much in a fighter 100% of the time. If I had the time to tinker around in GVs durring the summer months I would be in them more but I just dont. I guess I could make time but I love fighters so I just cant do that now. :p

When the winter rolls around and there is absolutly nothing to do but shovel snow and play AH I will get back into the "whole" game.

BTW. What did you mean by practice off line? What do you shoot at? Hangers? hehe seriously tho. Besides stationary targets what do you practice off line in GVs?

Forgot to ask...

Are the LTAR's still playing AH?

It was always amazing to see you guys taking bases with your GVs.

I remember I tired to stop you in a 110 from taking a base on Pizza map about 7 months ago. Going in on your M3 was next to near imposible and was almost certain death.

Much improved. Only issue that stands out right now is the ability to see bottom of the enemys tracks as they drive up the far side of hills...makes it pretty easy to lead em...

Well, I had to smack a Panzer with 6 direct hit from an 8" gun to kill it.... After the first hit, it should have looked like collision between a Pepsi can and a loaded Freightliner....

Armor and penetration models are light years from resembling real world.

Completely understandable.

Practice offline:
Yes, you find a stationary target on the field like a fuel bunker or something. {If in an Ostwind} practice hitting the target from various distances WHILE moving at various speeds.
{In a tank} same thing, but from much further distances, sometimes rolling sometimes stopped.

Just like anything else, it just takes practice and patience. From what I gather your a pretty good fighter pilot, well you didn't get to that point because you fly once a week for 10 mins?
Plus you really have to want to do GV's to get good at them {AH anyways} it takes a lot of time in the seat and a ton of patience. Most people do not like them for that reason, but that is fine, some players don't like to fly {but once in a great while}

My whole point ever since I started the LTAR GV Squad, but because we were very good at what we like to do we caught a ton of flak for it "no pun intended";)
This is why Iv'e stated so many times that it's a damn shame that the AH community can't come together, help each other out & HTC to make the best WWII Combat sim on the planet.
Notice I did not say "Flight sim" I said WWII Combat sim, you can not have a game where you promise all this diversity with planes, GV's, ships, manable field guns, shore batteries and so on then spend all this time to make the perfect "flight model" and leave the rest to the night crew.

People for some reason seem to think I or we LTAR hate AH, this is not true. Never has been, we've gotten upset just like everyone else and been told "quit being a whiner you "GV dweeb"  those GV's are an afterthought, they don't count.
That's funny, the whole arena would seem to show up at a base the second they found out LTAR was there in force?
Which, don't get me wrong, I think we had some of the  Best fights in all of AH history. Having the JB's come after us!  Getting squads to put our squad name in theirs!  Classic

I think there is a lot of great squads in AH, some friend, some foe, but they are all important, even if you love to hate them.
I can't think of too many squads that held the value of an LTAR pelt?

Bottom line is this, Yes LTAR has disbanded from AH, there are still a couple of the guys that stayed back and continue to play today due to friendships and love of the game. I would never as thier CO ask them to leave AH just because the rest of us are disgusted with the way things have been playing out ever since the release of AH2.
The ground game in AH is very lacking, while we {LTAR} realize the emphesis has been on planes, the ground game remains stale. Now before everyone jumps in and starts telling me how much fun they had in a Tiger tank the other night and that they got umpteen many kills in it.
The point remains the same, the BB states the facts, people don't come here, take the time to post, then start making up things like "the veh's move funny" or "he shot me thu the hillside" or "I dropped 10,000lbs of bombs on him and he's not even smoking"

It's not up to me to say weather or not HTC want's to address these issues, maybe they wish GV's wern't in the game, not worth the hassle type of thing, who knows.
I do know one thing, this community has the potential and A/C insight, GV insight and overall knowledge for the game and what was actually used in WWII, to make it the best, most involved and diverse WWII combat sim ever created.......PERIOD!

That's why you see me post that it is a shame when HT has to come to the forums and start putting in rules, ban people, listen to the whines {some have merit, some don't} this still doesn't look good to the community or HTC.

If you took all this thought process it took to post all the whines, complaints, accusations, fed-ups, b1tches, quitting and everything else, and put it into a giant brainstorm of collaboration to make the game better for everyone playing,  AH3 would have been out a week ago. {exaggerating, but you get the point}
