I am still trying to understand all the hoopla over this Fox news issue, Canada and the CRTC have not made any decision on this issue as of yet.  I can't find anything where it states the CRTC is objecting to this.  The only thing I found on their web site is a request for submissions..

In fact on 24 November 2000, the Commission approved a Category 2 specialty television service to be known as Fox News Canada.

This service was suppose to be implemented in December 2003 but was not, Global Television Network applied for an extension and it was granted.  However Fox News (USA) wrote a letter in March of this year and stated "Fox News does not intend to implement this service and therefore will not meet the extended deadline to commence operations."

I gather they don't want to agree to the Canadian content that the CRTC is interested in and have no applied to broadcast via satellite.

I don’t see this being an issue, they will hold the hearings and I imagine Fox will get approval (again), in the mean time stop sending all your damn satellite signals over the border...

Actually what the CRTC did is ok the application with the condition that the carrier will be responsible for the content.

Ie if Al Craperia airs an item that is show to be racist or anti semematic or inflamatory or whatever then the cable carrier is responsible.

This effectively will prevent them from being on the air anytime soon or perhaps forever.

My issue in that other thread was that a recent poll in Canada found that approx 40% of Canadian teens believe the USA to be evil. That number goes up to 64% among French-Canadian teens. Where are these kids getting this impression from? Certainly not from Fox News which they are being denied. With Al Jazeera available those numbers will likely go even higher.

My conclusion: The USA is not "evil" or even bad. In fact, the USA has freed more people from oppresion in the last century than most other countries combined. Why are the kids thinking that we are evil? Brainwashing from somewhere obviously, but where?
