Possibly new drivers for your GeForce4 MX440 may help, you didn't mention which version your using. Also, be sure to install them correctly and remove the old drivers before installing the new ones.
Does this happen when trying to go online or offline also?

nice processor, nice RAM, vid card is the BAD, thats a low end card you have.

make sure its DX9 B which is the latest version....

go to http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp for your drivers....

with the card you have, you should take the late 30' to early 40' vid card drivers....

RIGHT CLICK destop, Properties, Settings, Advanced, GeForce(look in there for the driver version)

but seriously that card will not make things look to good, think about getting a better one, if not, yours will work just fine, but it could be better.

I know I had 'z-buffering' issues with 30.82s or the 31.40s, can't remember which. You are using the 30.82s. I had to get 56.64 to clear it up.
I also use WHQL drivers Microsoft approved, but that just me.
Which version you get also depends on Operating System. From what I recall the nVidia site asks a few questions and then directs you pretty good.
And yes the MX cards are the least powerful of those cards.

you need the 56.xx drivers  (the .xx changes for what os you are running)  they work fine on my gf2 and my ti4600 cards

beshure you run dxdiag after installing the new drivers so it knows the current config also.

Also make sure the monitor type in the video control panel is set to the correct monitor.  If it is set to the 'Default' monitor type, you will have some troubles.
In this instance, just make sure you have the INF files for your LCD monitor loaded and it is selected as the monitor in the video driver control panel.
