Hmmmm OK

Take out the allison engines with the superchargers.

Put in a couple of big radials with 30mm guns shooting through the hubs.

Best hang some more tail on it cause its going to be nose heavy now.

Course it will fly like a 110, but thats ok right?

Quite a few P-38s had 6 50s in the nose.  Now I would like to have one of those.

Those were even used operationally, I might add... I can dig up a pic if so desired.

HTC only models factory production.

P-38's with 6 .50 cals, mods with several cannon gondolas or mods carrying torpedoes, or those with a bombardier glass nose, the ambulance P-38 (pods in weapon pylons to evac wounded), etc etc are P-38s that were modified in the field to fit those roles.

Now, it WOULD be nice if we could use the 2k lb bomb in each wing the P-38L did use in combat without modifications :D

Actually, the gun pods on the P38 (from what I remember) were NOT a field mod but were not used operationally.

50cal pods not used operationally? Then why are they in IL2 AEP?

IL-2/AEP crossed the "line" a long time ago. Which IMO personally, hurted the game more than benefitted it.

They were field mods. No P-38 came off the assembly line with the gun pods installed or weapon pylons modified to use them.

Just for the record, the Bf109 gondolas, or gondelwaffens as they used to call it, was an optional official factory kit in the R6 configurations.
