AHII crashed and locked up and wiped out my freakin inbox?
« on: August 04, 2004, 12:02:43 AM »
And wiped out my freakin inbox? Absolutely outstanding. AH II locks up and crashes, when I reboot, my entire inbox is wiped clean. Gee thanks HTC, way to go. Several very important emails are now just gone. I think I'll take a break for a month.

"Very important" data should be backed up.

Actually it is more accurate to say Windows did it as the operating system is in control of such things.

It sounds as though your email program was running and had the inbox open, while you were playing Aces High.  Just a guess.  Something had the inbox open, such as an email worm, while you were playing Aces High.
A reboot with files open can cause loss of those files.  It does not happen often, but it can happen.  I just wanted to clarify that.

Well, I have my system setup so that nothing runs while AH II is running, except for the bare essentials of the OS, Windows 2K Pro. Just to prevent a conflict or a lock up. AH II just locked up solid, it would not alt+tab, it would not alt+F4, it would not ctrl+alt+delete, I had to hit the reset button. Poof, email gone.

Virgil you're likely victim of a corrupted inbox

try the method described here (assuming you use outlook)

http://www.codeconscious.com/outlook-express/corrupted-oe-inbox.html

don't forget to make a backup first.

if it don't work you will still be able to open the inbox.mdx with notepad.
It will be full of junk but you still will be able to read your mail amon the garbage.

Thanks Straffo. It does not act like it is corrupted, it works real well. But anything is worth a try. I checked for a corrupted identity, but the two identities are both working well, as is the other stuff.

glad to help :)

fwiw the same thing happened to me about a year ago at work. Cannot remember the program I had just installed and was running but ended up with a frozen PC and after rebooting ALL of my email was gone. And it wasn't even running. the program worked but every email for the last four years had dissapeared. Luckily I'd had a recent back up and could recover.

Good luck. Maybe there is someway to recover the files. May want to search the web for a file recovery utlity and see if it can find the emails on your HDD somehow.

No. They are apparently gone forever. Thanks for the effort though.
