A Request to HTC
Instead of having specific aircraft skins, how about this suggestion?
A WWII squadron based skin is made for an aircraft (I.e. P-51D, example 357th) This skin would bare only the bare essentials that would identify it as a particular squadron aircraft.
The Numbers for the aircraft would be unique within a player's squad, and the player would be able to put their own noseart on aircraft. The noseart would be similar to current squad noseart, only with a larger allowed area.
This would allow for much more variety in the aircraft seen, while only adding a small amount more in stored graphics.
This would allow squadrons to have a little more immersion also and be a break from always seeing the same noseart and numbers on each aircraft.
Also, limit certain skins to certain countries, that way, if you are flying the 15th AF P-51D, you never shoot down the 15th AF P-51D because the other country wouldn't have it available.
Don't mind me,..... but I think that would be a little more complicated and controversial then you may think.
Complicated enough to where is may distract from work being done in more needed areas.
Then you may have the controversial part where players will rant about which country would be allowed which skins, and why, or why not. Judging from the way some get their panties in a wad so easily on these boards, this could get really ugly.
Sounds more to me like something that could be added after all the dust settles.
Personally, I think it would be much easier accross the board if players just made their own squad skins.
GREAT idea tho....if it can work *easily*, it should be done
OTOH,...
1) Most likely, no sets of skins will look exactly alike by nature anyway.
2) How much of a skin do you see in flight/combat to be able to tell much anyway?
3) If you become fixated on seeing the skin of your target, chances are your gunnery is going to be slacking.
