Never heard of a X300, but an X800 PCIX is slower than it's twin X800 8xAGP by about 5%.

The X300 is a 4 pixel pipe card in ATi's new line.  It should have performance a bit better than a 9600 XT.  However, in ATi's card designations, SE denotes a deliberately crippled card at a lower price point than the standard card so its possible it's more like a 9600 Pro.  I've not seen a benchmark on it but it should play AH2 acceptably.

The x300 SE has a 64 bit memory interface and thus may prove slower than the 9600 Pro and 9600 XT which have a 128 bit memory interface.  The standard x300 should be faster than the 9600s

I might upgrade to  the 9800pro when I get the cpu.  next week it should be here and then i'll run AHII thru the paces to see if I have too. It is coming as the Standard Vid card in the 8400 dell.

Chug,
Better double check on that computer if you're planning on installing a 9800 Pro. I'm sure you're new computer will NOT have an AGP slot. It has the new PCI Express, which has replaced the AGP slot. You will have to use the x300 until more PCI Express video cards become available. By January there should be a wide selection of them at many price points.

i think an x300 is like the total CRAP pants horrible "only good for desktop" gfx card for PCI-x

x600s are mid range
x800s are the top range

if you get a crappy dell that uses PCI-X slots then yes, there wont be an AGP slot for a 9800pro

Watch it on PCI-E systems.  The PCI-E bus performance is dependent on the number of channels available.  If the manufacturer does not state how many channels they have designed into the bus/motherboard, you need to ask.
A one channel PCI-E bus is significantly slower than the AGP bus, for example.
