How to kill a panzer with just a few 20mm's

Last night we were taking a base. Had it cap'd and a squadie had his tiger parked right by the enemy VH. I was flying a C-Hog and just for fun I put a couple of rounds into a panzer as he emerged from the VH.  I was shocked and amazed as I watched my squadie blast him with the tiger and I was awarded the kill?! Now somewhat curious, I repeated the process, and guess what? I got the kill again! I'd guess I got maybe 5-10 hits on the turret at a very steep angle both times. Shouldn't the tigers 88mm (is it an 88?) do more damage than a few C-Hog 20mm's?

I didn't care to steal any more of my squadie's hard earned spawn camping kills so I don't have any further info...

g00b, you got 5-10 hits, your mate only 1. I suspect this is the complexity of our current system.

That has happened me lots of times, I put some rounds on something,  a pz kill it with a single one and I get the kill.

I think the same happens with planes.  I put a bunch of 303s in a 38 and got one engine to smoke, last night.  109 cuts in and blasts him out of the sky.  I got the kill.  I would think his 20mm and 30mm would have done more damage than I did.  After all, I only smoked an engine while the 109 got the 38 to explode in mid air.  I will check on this but I have never goten an assist when I was the first to put rounds into something.
