Another angle, including a link to your article.

This CSM article appears to back up the notion that the media is focusing on bad news, does it not?  Example:

Quote
A series of recent reports in US and British media about the security situation in Iraq has painted a picture of a country overwhelmed by a surge of violence.

It further implies a subtle agreement with the NRO writer with statements like, "Yet, the news from Iraq seems grim" (itallics added by me for emphasis).

Of course, the CSM article offers no conclusions, but instead simply recounts the headlines of various news organizations.

"The urge to save humanity almost always masks a desire to rule it."

what is wrong with that picture???

What's wrong is that you could say the same thing about the republicans if a democrat was in office.  If it were true. ;)  Both sides want to point out that the other is doing a bad job--that doesn't mean body bags and stock crashes, for either side.

I guess it depends on what meaning you attribute to the term "paints a picture"

I attribute no inherent accusation of dishonesty to the term.
