any sim cockpit builders?
« on: August 06, 2004, 11:12:23 AM »
I've been toying with the idea of building a more realistic instrument panel. So far, the only step I took in that direction was running a program linked to FS2002 which displays a PFD on a second monitor.
I was wondering if there's any people who play this game who are building simpits, or simply think about doing it.

There's a number of folks here that have simpits with varying degrees of functionality. Regarding a functional instrument panel though...flying AH your options are pretty limited since running gauges will require support from the game. The Microsoft Flight Sim series has that capability though, if that is your cup of tea.

There was, a few years ago, either in the O-Club or one of the other rooms that showed some awesome simpits.

Some of them were truly works of art.

Which, when I become extremely and utterly filthy rich and have nothing but time on my hands I too... will build a simpit..entire canopy.  I'm thinking of taking out 2 of the bedrooms upstairs.

Have it entirely Force Feed back, enclosed canopy, multiple screens, lit/active panels, pedals, piss tube...and a cup holder.

*poof*  Okay I'm awake, I'm awake... qhat was the subject?

:D

Daimler has built one and is building another.
Post your email and I'll send you a picture of it :)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

I have plans to build one modeled on a modern cockpit for use in Flight Sim.  Small screens to act as PFDs (small television screens I believe will work) surrounded by scrounged or scratch built buttons.  Unfortunately, finding some modern avionics accessories isn't exactly a simple thing to do nor would it be cheap.  I am certain that I can build something along the lines of a high performance Frasca.  High performance in the idea that it will be a 'glass' cockpit with at least some functionality.  I think it's got a reasonable shot at making it as well, a friend is an electronics engineer and we might see to making it marketable.

[Idea] Maybe I'll start a company called Scorpion Software and issue a special Desert Storm F-16 cockpit with a couple kill symbols on the side.[/Idea]  Anyone want to make donations?

Seriously though, there are a few players out there with outstanding sim cockpits and I personally think it's a neat idea.

Cool intrument panel.
Man, I would just like to be able to use a second monitor for 6 view in AH.

MFD = Multi Function Display (like in most modern high dollar aircraft)

What is a "PFD"?

cool panel nsty1.is it /gonna be functional? are u using epic cards for gauges?

I think I will hook up my switched to a second keyboard, thus I won't need to purchase more leectronic components.

Spitfiremkv,
yea most definitely an EPIC card woill be the way to go,however,
most of the "key" commands will go through momentary switches
like"start", flaps for example will be wired through a series of momentary switches and epic card.Other goodies like 12v system for lighting, eventually, the whole thing will get mounted on a full
platform for actual movement .
