I have noticed that if you set a plane for max cruise, and then you reset it to "Lindburgh" settings, IE even lower RPM but higher boost, you get the same result as he got in WWII. Every plane I have tried that with so far I have gotten better range (although some are very minimal differences, but still better than max cruise) and the same speed.
