Need Help!
« on: August 09, 2004, 05:46:58 PM »
i really need help trying to run AH2. Whenever i run AH2, it will show me the select your video card window. So i click ok on my video card ( by the way my video card is NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 [HP]) and whenever it loads it will turn into a black screen and then my mouse will appear for like 3-5 seconds. After that, it will have a white screen for half a second. and then my screen will turn black again and go back to my desktop...
advice anyone?

id say first your video card is a bit on the low side for hardware requirements.

also you probably have to update the drivers to support all the features of the game.

contact HP or http://www.nvidia.com for the latest drivers. un-install FULLY the old drivers frst, then install the new ones.

if you still have support free from HP you can try and have them take you through it. otherwise many in here are helpful, and will gte you going.

once that is done you probably should be able to at least run AH.

good luck

Go to http://www.nvidia.com.  they have the latest driver's.  If you don't already have direct x 9.0b (or 9.0c)  those are a must
as well.  But as the other guy said, do NOT install the new
drivers until you've deleted the old driver's and reboot.
If you don't follow this advice, you will have a lot of headaches
with your video.

You should just need to update the video card drivers, but if you have not done that, then you probably need to look into updating several things.

Video Card
1)  Go to http://www.nvidia.com and download the latest driver for your video card.  Be sure to save the file on your hard drive and not to your desktop.

2)  After the download is complete, note the location of the file as you will need it later.  Shut down any and all programs and get to the Windows desktop.

3)  Press the "Start" button on the taskbar.

4)  Select the "Settings" option.

5)  Go to the "Control Panel".

6)  Open the "Add/Remove Programs" ICON.

7)  Find the "NVidia Display Driver" in the list.  NOTE:  It could be named something else, based on the actual model/brand of card you have.

8)  Remove the driver and Windows will want to reboot.  Do so.

9)  During the reboot, Windows will detect the video card driver and try to load the driver again.  Make sure to cancel this opertion.  Do not let Windows re-install the driver.

10)  Now you should be in VGA mode, which makes the screen look a bit ugly.

11)  Find the file you downloaded from NVidia's WEB site and exectute it (double-click).

Answer the questions, reboot when prompted, and you are done.

It is not a daunting procedure, but it does require a methodical approach.
