New Offline Training arena
« on: August 06, 2004, 08:49:45 PM »
I know Hitech and the Boys have a lot of things  probably more important than this issue but I would at least like to bring it up for discussion.  The offline arena imo is pretty lacking as far as training potential.

One of the areas I would like to see is something like a GV battle ground were there would be all sorts of GV's from m3's to tiger tanks scattered around at differnet ranges, facing different directions to be used as target practice both on the ground and in the air.   They would be motionless and would not return fire but they could be disabled and killed.  Some could even be hiding behind a hill with just the turret showing or in tree lines etc.  And unlike the aircraft flying around in a circle the GVs would not respawn until the player clicked on reset.  This would allow players to practice their tank gunnery and improve thier ablility to estimate ranges and to practice dive bombing and rocketry were accuaracy is 10 times more critical than dive bombing buildings.  Just a thought Hitech

Ya, thats an excellent idea.  Would also be cool if they
had intelligent drones to practice on.  Ones that would actually
try to evade you.

I think this is all possible right now, you just need to be talented with the terrain editor.

Only problem is that i didn't vehicle objects share the same penetration data as real vehicles.

The Warbirds 2 offline AI drones from way back in '98 could beat alot pilots in here i bet, was a big furball and they used pretty good basic ACM, or you could set it on "Bomber Attack" and attack a buff formation, that would kill ya if you settled on thier six.
A great tool to work on manuevers and gunnery.

And having a usefull TA map is a must and cant believe we dont already have one goin, targets, structures your allowed to bomb and ships etc, and a tight narrow winding canyon for races
