Skuzzy (Connection Troubles)
« on: August 15, 2004, 11:41:06 PM »
I have had major connection troubles since the new patch. I am no longer able to fly because everyone is just warping around. It is impossible to fly. Connection looks like this. I checked the HTC IP. and it seemed fine. Dunno what the problem is but here are some screen shots of my net status.

See that Varience?  It is indicative of something running in the background on your computer.  In the second shot it appears something to really sucking away at the CPU cycles of your system.

Nothing that I am aware of is running in the backround. Every other game I play is fine tho. Not sure would could be using up my CPU, this just all occured so suddenly. Maybe a system restore ya think?

Looks like spyware to me.  Do the usual stuff.  Lavasoft AdAware, Spybot search/destroy, and if you have the 20.00 to spend (no, you should NOT go to a place like crackspider.net and get an illegal serial for the proggy) you can run SpyKiller (skuzzy loves it) and make sure.  I have noticed w/ AH2 if the slightest thing is running in the background (spyware etc) AH2 freaks out and my fps suffers terribly.

p.s. you got email.

Err guess not. Seems like I have a virus. The problem re-generates itself. I have to run spykiller, restard puter, and then keep spykiller running to be able to connect properly to AH. Any suggestions?

This is the thing that keeps popping up in spykiller. It's the only thing that pop's up over and over again.

xtrmej@passport[1].txt

It's a cookies, and it's danger level is severe. My guess is it is associated with hotmail. I'm not sure if that is the problem tho hehe.

I just tested it. After I delete that above "parasite" my connection becomes a solid line again. So that is the root of the problem.

Try running the spy killers in safe mode.  It sounds like you have a dll file being kicked off and it will not be able to be removed while running.

Well skuzzy, I just got frusterated trying multiple spyware programs and decided to reformat my puter. Everything running smoothly again. Thanks for the help, and everyone else too.

You probably had something like Wintools, adaware and spybot won't kill them (yet) and they do regenerate.  You have to go in and kill em manually.

When you identify your pest/pet, use google, there are many sites dealing with these problems - It is not possible to give you exact instructions without knowing what pest infected your PC...
Example: Wintools removal --> http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&q=Wintools+removal

#1 result gives this, which is actually nice Wintools removal instruction:
http://www.pchell.com/support/wintools.shtml

Also websites by known antivirus tool makers like McAfee are good start.
Example: http://vil.nai.com/vil/default.asp
