Brooke it is possible to back up on the CV.
What you do is apply a little bit of throttle, and once the tires start to roll you will roll backwards. It happens because the CV is actually travelling into wind at 30knots (or 35, can't remember), and once you get the A/C moving it will roll backwards.
Not sure if it still works or not, but it should. Keep in mind that if you do this, you need to be carefull that you are backing straight, and that you also don't roll right off the back of the flight deck into the drink.
People used to use this procedure to get a heavy F4U off the CV, although it didn't need the extra distance to take off if you did it right.
