In Flight Trim and AutoPilot.... (Flight Model)
« on: August 19, 2004, 02:38:03 PM »
I have noticed in any aircraft I launch in, I am constantly having to use the 'I' Key to bring my Elevator trim down from all the way up.

I have also noted in previous posts some people were having problems with autopilot throwing them into the dirt.

As the Auto pilot seems to make use of the trim to effect course corrections I am proposing this be looked into as a possible bug.

The effects of the full up trim is very pronounced, as it make the nose of the 262, 38, 26 and a few other birds VERY bouncy.

I don't use autotakeoff, and turning on combat trim for a split second makes FAST adjustments for the speed you are presently  at. I am sure there has been a long hard discussion on combat trim on planes that didn't have adjustable trim from the cockpit, so I wont even go there.

Suggestions:

Is there a way to save trim settings same as head views?

Could the combat trim be a trigger instead of a toggle? (trigger meaning turn it on for an instant to "Trim" and then it goes off immediatly. )

well, taking off, HiTech said once that even in his plane you trim the elev "up" so it makes sence to have it start there by default (when combat trim is on)

if that is not your concern, i am curious if you have something mapped on your stick to trim in the JS axises?

if so, i think alot dont know they need to move them also in the calibration for them to work properly.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I would love to have a JS that I could assign trim to. But alas I do not.

I never use combat trim unless I porked it so badly I just hit Combat trim on for a second, then back off.

When I start on the runway with combat trim off ( Default per my preferences) I would prefer if the trim was not all the way up. If HiTech has decided to make trim all the way up at launch then I will assume that he has his reasons and will not debate the issue further. However, if his intentions were/are to make all trim neutral on launch w/ combat trim off then I thought I might point it out. :)

Trim is set for climb out at take off, thats why it is where it is.
