I'm not trying to change anyones views on gun control, I just think this is an ugly thread. Its the equivalent of me posting "So hows that 2nd ammendment working out for you fellahs?"

No one was "giggling" at the act of violence on this poor victim until you brought it up. If you knew the history behind our Gun control topcis on this board the last 5 years, and Beetles defense of Britains gun control laws, you'd understand that the article, linked with a winky, meant  to say "Hey beetle, guns don't kill people, people kill people"

I watched a concealed carry class at our range that was all women.   I think that people with hammers might be polite if they knew that maybe 1 in ten people had a concealled carry permit.   In fact... I know it.   In concealled carry permit states people are indeed better behaved.

At least women have a choice to carry here after such attacks occur.

Well here we go again had that been myself and my family we would have been out there with a few dogs (man's earliest early warning system) and armed down to the 12 yr old.  While the loss of life is indeed sad they could have just as easily been killed by a bear.  People do silly things and and take their personal secutity for granted.  It's all a byproduct of the 911 nanny state mentality.  I say they could join young Ms McConnell as poster children for what not to do.

Guns did not protect this 19-year-old girl in England. Guns would not have protected her in the US either.

Mine may have easily put a nice double tap into Maxwell's brain pan and I would gladly stand before a jury of my peers for allowing a minor to carry a concealed weapon.  They are both over 21 now and carry legally and shoot nicely, thankyou very much.  Carry on with your illogical social experimentation.

Assuming he hadn't shot them first, of course which - given a gun owning society - seems more likely. After all, if you can buy a gun, why use a hammer?
Of course, even armed with just a hammer, you can still get by as a serial killer in the US:  Harvey Carignan for example.

LOL I think it might be a bit of a shock to know the true answer to this question. :D

So England's system is a failure, Storch?

Talking from a position of strength in the good ol' US of A where murder is unheard of because of the availability of firearms.

What a tool (hammer, spanner... take your pick).

the way it works is that there are increased penalties for crime with guns and... if you at the same time have decreased laws for concealed carry... you get a huge net decrease in crime against persons.  criminals are rarely armed with guns anymore because of the increased penalties... burglars rarely go into homes that are occupied because they fear armed citizens (unlike england wher they do it 50% of the time while the brits cower under their beds).

A lot of mass murderers have been stopped with guns in the hands of private citizens... it is little known that fully 1/3 of all school shootings were ended by a citizen with a gun before the police arrived.  More guns would help even more.

logic dictates that you make the act illegal not the tool.
