Wondering if the Mk VII skin would be more appropriate on a Spit V, given the assymetrical radiators on lower wings.

Never noticed the radiators.  Good eye :)  The profile is wrong. The VII had the same radiator set up as the IX.

The Spit VI had the same set up as the Vb.

Now you guys have me hunting for better Spit IX and V skin possibilities.  Some of the Burma paint schemes that went on the VIIIs might be nice on the IX as well as some of the Med schemes.

Gotta love Spits :)

OK, reduced both wing and fuselage roundels ( you were right ).
Lined up gun stains.
Just gotta do paint chips.
Less dirt on this one but more fading.

Any other suggestions.
Oh where the hell does the exhaust get its color from?

Thanks

Yours is great Kev, much better than mine is now. Ive done the basic coloring on SPITSIDE.bmp, but I havent done weathering or any detailed work on it yet.  Keep working on yours though, I love it.  Also, mine is a Spit9, so maybe we're doing two different versions of the same plane?
Appologies for the bad picture, I dont have a bmp converter except MS paint...

I did more research and found out that ZX-6 does have black squadron markings, not the blue.

I noticed that this skin cant be made completely realistic because of the swastika kill markings...

Kev, i have noticed that on your spits you have the black line on the wing overlapping the RAF markings.  Is that the correct way or is it supposed to be underneath as Ive seen before?

For swastikas use a + with the sides outlined in white as per LW wing crosses. I just use single pixel widths for them.
Wish I knew about the black line for sure. seen some models where this black line is actually a deep panel line.
For painting get hold of the time limited version of Paint Shop Pro from http://www.jasc.com
Mine is a Spit 9 also, so I'll back burner it for the moment and finish the two hi-alt Spits instead.

You can do a far east Spitfire Mk XIV.  I have photos of this aircraft with full wings and the far side.  It is in Ginger Lacey's markings with numerous German kill marks on the left side.  A couple of Italian and Japanese too.  I couldn't find a photo of the left side on the internet.

No idea on the exhausts.  No yellow leading edge stripe on that particular paint scheme.

It looks great though :)

Thats what I did with the swastis, just put a + sign in for them.  I have the PSP trial, but I much prefer the free Serif Photoplus 5.5.

United, have you checked the two Spitfire Mk.9 skins in AH by DsrtRat?  They're both actually Mk.8 aircraft accepted for the Mk.9.

Hi Guppy, latest pic of MkVII, just paint chips layer and adjust weathering/fading layers opacity left to do. Reworked roundels as you suggested and removed lower roundels.

Reworked weathering/fading, just paint chips left.

Thinking about doing slightly later one with lower D-Day stripes only on wing and half on fuselage, as the upper ones hose the cannon colors up.

That VII looks really great.  I like your idea of doing the version with the partial D-Day stripes too.

I think this one would be top of my list to use with the IX.

Great stuff :)

Actually I like the look and size of your streaks .. ya never know what exactly might have caused them ... flying into an oil stream on a plane that was shot down ?
