eny question
« on: August 28, 2004, 03:27:38 PM »
I logged in Saturday around 4:15 pm eastern time, and here was the balance - bish 74, knight 85, rook 94.  Doesn't sound too horde-ish, so I'm optimistic things will be "normal".

Click fly...

"planes with eny less than 9 can't be flown"

mouse over to arena exit button, *click*

My question - are those arena numbers so imbalanced that the spit-9 and lots of other planes must be disabled?  I thought the point of the plane disablement system was to correct arena imbalance, not create barriers to gameplay, but there was no arena imbalance, no hordes sweeping the fields of battle, no gangbang in progress, yet some planes were disabled.  What gives?

personally i feel the arena limit (140) when the eny limiter kicks in is set too low.  I'd bump it up to 300 or so.

I'm sure this will be tweaked to some extent at some point. the sooner the better, tho, imho.

Had you switched to Bishops you could've flown anything you wanted.

That's what the new system is all about.

Can't fly what you want to fly? Fine, switch sides. No big deal.

I'm pretty sure the Spit V woulda been enabled, but if 5mph less is too much, I guess you could always log out...

If I"d switched to bishop then I couldn't fly with my squad and friends, plus a while later when bishops outnumber rooks, I'd still be stuck with the disablement but not able to switch countries.

A game feature that forces individuals of squads to break away from their squad seems counterproductive.  Say I log in and switch to bish, then another squaddie logs in a few hours later and switches to knights while I"m not online.  When we do finally get online at the same time, we can't fly together, chances are one of us will still feel the effects of the disablement as the arena numbers ebb and flow normally and the arena balance hasn't changed much.

Maybe I'll just start leaving my account logged in, so I can easily check to see if the disablement is in effect plus I'll always be counted towards my country so logging in won't further add to the imbalance.  This ought to help because the disablement seems to kick in pretty hard when one side is only up 9 or so players out of 200+, so staying logged in will keep one more counter in my country more often.

It's a lot of fun when the planes aren't disabled.  I can't say I'm sorry to see less LA-7s but it can't be any fun to those who really like to fly those low eny planes when they're disabled and they can't switch sides because it will fragment their squad.

kevin, the spit-5 doesn't have external drop tanks so with the high fuel burn rate I was finding that I was running out of fuel before getting more than one quick fight.

And before you say I need to manage my fuel better, I was doing that all correctly.  Lower rpm, lower manifold pressure, climbing to thinner air, the whole bit.  Running out of fuel before running out of ammo in a spit5 is a pain in the butt :)  If the spit5 had an ext fuel tank, I'd be using the spit5 a lot more.

OK one more suggestion.

When a countires ENY is limiting planes. let us buy a Spit9 (or plane of our choice) with our perk points.

1) This rewards those who fly smart and build up their points.  The whole point of the perk system.

2) It allows those who fly smart to fly the planes of their choice no matter what the ENY is as long as they have points.

3) It rewards those who will switch countries to even up the balance.

Thank you for your consideration and remember to vote early and often.

Are there any stats to indicate that ENY is balancing the odds? I haven't really noticed a difference. Because if it isn't affecting the odds, lets ditch it.
