i said 2500 ;)

thats the problem range, its the CHEAPest Barton out there, but clocks to 3400, hell even 3800 in most cases (ratings before anyone tells me thats impossible). From what i hear its the only one thats locked right now, and your cpu proves that :aok

ok so then its only the XP2500 that are locked(multiplier locked only). i guess that explains it better!  Most people were buying them up cause they were cheap and would still clock fairly high!

My misunderstanding Overlag.  I was not sure you meant all AMD's CPU's or that one specific CPU.  AMD is a new world for me, so be gentle.

Different.  I am just playing about with it.  I find it easier to mess up than a P4 system.

AMD will probably be all I do in the near future.  Once the Northwood P4 is gone, I will no longer be able to advise anyone to get a P4.  The Prescott's are just terrible.

Yup, I did a poor job researching my CPU upgrade and bought a 2.8 Prescott thinking "hey if 512k cache is good, 1k is better right?".

The thing runs so hot at STOCK speed I have to put a oscillating fan blowing into the open case to keep it cool and that is with a Swiftech heatsink and Artic Silver 5 paste. Worst buy I ever made. I'll probably buy a Northwood just so I can close the damn case and remove the house fan.

The 2.8Ghz Northwood will, generally speaking, outperform the 2.8Ghz Prescott too.  Better get it while you can.  Intel is in a hurry to kill it.
