I sure wish I had more time to fly these days. I'm spending about half my available playing time in the TA training newbs. My nephew has been using my account some during late nights, and hasn't done too bad.

Like you, the P-38 has been my big scoring ride. However, I have only about 9% of your kills at 40 victories, 4 losses. Those losses were not to enemy aircraft... One lost to the collision bug (before it was fixed). One lost to a hidden M-16, which nailed me on the runway. One was lost to manned ack, and the last to ship auto-ack and the proxy given to some guy hiding in the ack. I always enjoy the P-38, taking on everything in it. But like any other large plane, it seems to attract ack like a magnet. :)

Spectacularly so. Though the Hellkitty is supposed to be harder to kill and survive in...apparently.

I guess the rook's allegedly superior tactical help only works when the help isn't already dead.  :D

Considering the planes you flew this tour, I think it's kind of pointless for you to make any comments about Hornet.  But hey, throw all the stones you want.

Playing not overly much for two years yields some interesting stuff for me too.

It clearly shows that I started out with mindless furballing (still majority of kills in FM-2 and a lot of deaths too) but the most surprising thing is that I have a K/D of 2.5 in my favourite fighter (P-51B) but 3.5 in the P-38, a plane I rarely fly...

Killed more P-51D's then everything else, killed two 262's, one Ar-234, only ever flew one sortie and one kill in perk plane EVER (Me-262). Never shot down Spit XIV or Me-163. No kills of chutes either. Absolutely suck in N1K2, lots of kills in 'perk farmers' like F4U-1, FM-2, P-51B, La-5.

Only 8 Ostwinds killed in two years, I can't get the hang of it even now.

I flew the same planes I always fly, every camp: Typhoon(ENY 20), F6F(ENY 20), P51D(ENY 6), P47D-40(ENY 30) & Tempest(ENY 5). How is that the same as Hornet flying the Tempest for the vast majority (108/149 kills or 72%) of his kills? All of those planes I fly except the P51D (5/175 kills or 3%) and the Tempest (17/175 kills or 10%) have a higher ENY rating than your precious P38(ENY 15) (100% of your kills). So, 87% of my kills were in planes HT considers more difficult to score victories in than your P38.

how do you spend that much time in an Ostwind Zazen , I'm really curious. I just can't see the attraction at all to those things in comparison to the  challenge of plane v plane.

As someone who obviously can do the flying part  how do spend so much time on the ground ? I'd be bored out of my brain.

I think vulching is one of the lamest aspects of the game just after spawncamping. If you think about it, vulching is just spawncamping planes in planes. I actually find defending a besieged airfield in an Ostwind against a horde of vulchers and porkers exciting. Also, I kill about 3 times as many planes per unit time in Ostwind as I can in a plane. Many times I have almost singe-handedly thwarted an organized mission or massive assault in my Ostwind. Alot of Rooks familiar with my talent in the Ostwind use me to full advantage, I make sure to tell everyone where I am if they need a clear.

About a year ago I figured out the 'trick' (I'll be happy to share this info. if requested in the interest of making vulching universally more dangerous) to deflection shooting in an Ostwind, making it a most efficient killing machine for me. The Ostwind is much harder in AHII (hit resolution/granularity thingy) than it was in AHI, but I have adapted after some practice. Last camp for example, with the exception of a couple of PT boat sorties, my entire vehicle sheet is comprised of killing planes in my Ostwind strictly in field defense. I had over 500 kills in 200 sorties with a K/D approaching 15 to 1. I only up my Ostwind in extreme situations where the base is either being vulched or is in the process of being overwhelmed and I end mission after the immediate threat is over, so boring it is not. ;) You can tell by my Kills/Time in vehicles I am quite busy. ;)

Hehe, the P-38L is the only ride I can score in

I just find it incredibly laughable that someone that spends the majority of their fighter time in the P-51D or Typhoon is making fun of someone that flew the Tempest as their main ride.  Has to do with something like calling the kettle black.

I'd be most interested in your technique. I do a lot of base defense, both in the air and using an Osti or man a field ack.
Not having a lot of luck so far...though I get a few.

Well.... if he is anything like the other Flak*****'s I see.. the technique is only 3 easy steps.

1.  Spawn, hit "2" to go to the gun.

2.  Hold the trigger down.

3.  Wave the gun around till the ammo runs out.

You'll have good results with this if there is a "horde" hitting the field.  If it is only one or two guys, expect it to take a while.  Fortunately, the flak***** comes with 1000 rounds of one-hit kill lameness.

Urchin, have you tried to hit anything in Ostwind in AHII? Especially something not heading straight at you or away from you? Hitting planes at deflection in an Ostwind is VERY difficult. I'd venture to say 98% of the MA population cannot hit anything other than a big fat slow bomber at any degree of deflection with anything vaguely resembling consistancy. I don't see many people landing 5+ kills in an Ostwind since AHII came out, it's alot harder to be proficient at than you think, try it and you'll see what I mean.
