Gents I dont know if this is the best forum to post this announcement but Im going to take a chance.
I have written a book for flight sim newbies. Its NOT sim specific and is mainly to help new (and old) pilots over that 'hump' we all had before understanding started setting in.
I have tried to put all of the things I have learned, mostly the hard way, into this book. Things like, the controllers available to us now, programming techniques, suggestions for monitors and what the numbers mean, connections and why did I die after that SOB passed me (lag, latency, packet loss).
I have tried to explain things like the various view systems available in games now and how FOV affects what we see on the screen.
Basic flight maneuvers and how they are used in ACM, Gunnery and bombing practice.
Some REALLY basic stuff on reading a map and giving coordinates to someone else. Basic killing strokes and how to avoid them.
I mentioned some of the higher level things that keep us online in the games: squadrons, special events, cons.
This book is not game specific, but the techniques and lessons are applicable any flight sims - more towards the prop sims than the jet sims.
Even though I aimed this book at the entry level pilot, the guys that have seen the early manuscripts think it has things for the older pilots in the sim community.
It is NOT a replacement for Bob Shaw’s excellent ‘Fighter Combat’. It IS a standalone work for the guys that havent graduated to the ‘Fighter Combat’ level of understanding.
If you consider Bob’s work as the ‘bible’, think of mine as the Sunday school version J
Ok, up to you guys to help spread the word on this. I have posted this on several BBSs, but this community knows many more than I. Crosslink to any appropriate website.
