Please remove the sector bars and inflight radar.
« on: January 06, 2001, 07:13:00 AM »
The subject says it all, please remove the sector bars and inflight radar.

Naturally, in tower we should keep the radar, but the sector bars should go anyway.

I simply just dont think it is realistic with not only GPS presision on where I am, but also where my enemies are, while in flight.

I actually think that we should remove the little plane that shows where you are, and wich heading you have too, only leave the bombers and other planes that had a navigator onboard with this option.

While you as a fighter pilot just have to navigate via compassheading and visual flight, I think this would add a new step to the playability, you have to actually keep checking the map and heading to find out where you are, this way you would have to get more `into` the game while flying long missions.

But I guess this wont happen, because it will be to hard for the newbies, but dang it, it would be cool

But anyway, inflight radar, and sector bars MUST go away.

Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

Um...question

Since we have that nifty range thingy for ship guns WHY can't we have that instead of GPS in the airplanes?

Use the same procedure to get a bearing on where you want to go. It'd be a heck of alot like VOR I guess, less so if ya removed the range   Maybe replace the range with a ETA?

I like that idea Jigster!

Along the lines of this thread, I remember back in beta before we had dot DAR at the least (Only sector DAR) and it seems to me we had more fun then with the sector only DAR, because at least you still had some 'element of surprise' left. I would like to see (And it's been posted here before) just dot DAR available in the tower at airfields that have DAR (Thinking of some of the terrains I am working on where forward fighter fields don't have DAR) or night/all weather fighters (P-61, He-219, Me-110G, Mossie NF Mk. whatever, etc.) and the Buffs equipped with it that had DAR (Like some Lanc's did). For the Aircraft that just had some sort of 'warning' system on them, those would get sector DAR, and basic fighter aircraft wouldn't have any DAR. PT Boats would only have about a 12 mile dot DAR and a grid DAR for their sector.

Actually I would like to take it a step further.

For those planes who had radar, make the layout of the radar screen somewhat historical correct, and NOT that GPS radar, if I remember right, there was a huge[b/] difference between the radar they had then and the radar that we have now.

There is a simple solution for those who do not like the radar and sector bars. Don't open your clipboard.

If that is not acceptable how about making this a user option. Those who don't want them could disable it and not use it. Those who DO want it can continue to use it. It isn't fair to deny other players a feature of the game just because you don't like it.

Maveric, I am sorry, but I disagree.

What you say is, if I don't like icons I only should turn them off ?

If I don't like Dots, just don't open clipboard ?

This give the one that uses it an advantage witch I don't get, this I don't want to do.
I don't like the auto take off either, nor the automatic combat trim, and what else there is of helps for the newbies, but this does not give any other an advantage over me in combat, so these I have turned off, but I don't moan and squeak and wants those removed.

But the inflight radar is extremely unrealistic, and in my 4 years in WB I didn't miss this feature once, not even in my newbie days.

So therefore I think it should be removed, and I actually believe that the gameplay would improve if this gets done.

PS. I don't even use the Autoselect on the fueltank, so therefore you might se me get a dry tank in the middle of a combat situation, but if I do it is my fault, and I feel it makes the whole ting a bit more realistic.

Lasse, To do otherwise is to deny other players a feature of the game they may like. I put myself in that category. If you don't like those features you do have a choice. Don't force your choice on others. That is all I am saying.

I am not here for realism. This ain't real by a long stretch. I am here to play a game, have fun with a decent flight game. If you want ultrarealism there are some things, you as a player, can do. Don't dump on the rest of us who happen to like them.

HT was just in arena, said the only thing he's considered so far is the possibility of no dar bar sectors for flights under 500 feet.
