Actually, if you hear folks like Slick Willy Clinton speak, the Republican and Democratic doctrines aren't too far apart. The major difference is in how they interpret "exporting security". The Neocon approach has that as being "ruling with an iron fist", whereas the Clintonian Democratic school is "establishing partnerships with other nations." In either case, we're talking about areas with massive poverty and unemployment, and the argument, "To make these areas secure, we need to connect them to the global market economy" is basically a justification of American Imperialism.
